I approached it from the other angle: Star Trek as a 1980s film? Who would Emilio Estevez play...

How about Kiefer Sutherland as Khan? Or possibly a klingon baddie?

elements over on my DW suggested Val Kilmer for Spock and I'm pretty sold on that idea and surprised I hadn't thought of it.

The funny thing is how much Cameron is like Bones--dragged along on an adventure, bitching all the way, but not as reluctant as he likes to make himself sound.

Is there anyone from Cheers you could work in? (Not as the teens, obviously. :P) I'm blanking on other good 80s teen choices (John Cusak? Molly Ringwold?) that haven't already been mentioned, but it's certainly an amusing concept.

I don't really have a sense of who the adults would be, is the problem. I guess Pike? And various parents? But that's sort of it. I'm mostly thinking the main eight plus Rand and Gaila because we love her.
