this week in tv

May 20, 2011 23:32

I'm not promising this is going to happen next week, as I have fuckall to say about Glee or Idol and none of y'all are watching Dancing with the Stars.

HIMYM, "Challenge Accepted." Barney IS getting married! Zoey is gone! Ted meets the mother at that wedding (though maybe we won't see him do it?)! Maybe Barney is marrying Robin! Lily is having a baby (as we saw in that flash forward)! Marshall probably has that job! How great is this show? SO GREAT!

Hawaii Five-0, "Ua Hiki Mai Kapalena Pau." So I watched the last two eps, and yeah, last week was just sort of vaguely annoying. I mean, sure, the slashy squee of Steve picking up Grace at school and agreeing to take care of her, omg, and I'm sure there are 35 alternate endings fics floating around. The highlight was definitely watching Jenna Kaye so effortlessly become a part of the gang. I love her spazziness and her smarts; her quiet ruthlessness is a nice counterpart to Kono's.

"Oia'i'o." Man, Jameson is cold, isn't she? Jean Smart acted the hell out of that shit. Watching Steve and Danny work together was a delight as always, but as
seeingrightly noted on tumblr, there was WAY too much plot for the last few episodes. They really should have let this stuff spool out better across the season. And I feel like the whole Rachel plot-which was also pretty klunky even without the pregnancy-was really just there to distract Danny so that Steve could run around doing stupid shit that Danny would have been sure to keep him from doing, like, say, breaking into the governor's mansion. (That said, Steve driving around in the Marquis going after the governor was hilarious.)

Anywho, next year is next year.

Castle, "Knockout." This episode, on the other hand, paid off on tons of things that have happened not just this season but over the seasons. I kinda figured that when Montgomery mentioned retirement that he was toast-it's a cliche, sure, but the kind of thing that Rick Castle would write in a Derrick Storm novel. I love that Ryan and Esposito found out, love their fight in the alley-so them. I love that Castle has to be the one to bring things into words. I love Castle carrying her out of the hangar, bodily. I love that Montgomery was a fucking badass to the end.

The shooting of Kate was kind of silly but whatever, next year is next year, though I have to wonder, what did Roy do, to make sure that "he" couldn't come after Kate?

Glee, "Funeral." Eh. I mean, seriously, where is any of this going? Probably no where! Kurt sings another Mama Rose song (very well), Mercedes makes me think of Duckie Dale, Santana is awesome, and that's sort of it.

So, bodycount for the season finales:
Mags Bennett
Doyle Bennett
Two Bennett henchmen killed by Boyd's cousin
Possibly other assorted people in Harlan County
Laura Hills
Governor Pat Jameson
Gary McCallister
Chuck Ryker
Captain Roy Montgomery
Jean Sylvester
Pierce's membership in the study group
Ted and Zoey's relationship
