No Glee til next week, no Community til 3/17, no more 5-0, Castle or HIMYM til 3/21, and only one more week of White Collar. Justified and Top Chef, you're gonna have to do some heavy lifting around here, because my vague disinterest in both a Simon-free Idol and a Derek-and-Maks-free DwtS may make for an antsy spring.
HIMYM, "Change of Heart." OMG Barney you broke my heart. Only in the best way, because if he had been that Barney he fantasized he was? It would have been a little fast. But I do like how ever since Lily moved in with Barney during the brief breakup, he goes to her whenever he's scared or unsure.
I had to spend a day in a heart monitor once-when they were still trying to figure out the dizzy spells, before they diagnosed the hypoglycemia-and they stick them down with horrible tape that leaves goo on your skin. But mostly? If Barney has bespoke shirts (and you know he does) then why doesn't he wear undershirts?
The whole Scooby thing was mostly just something silly to keep everyone else busy, though I like the complicated callback to the dogs that Robin owned when Ted started dating her and how each one was one of her ex-boyfriends. Dogs as men, now a man as a dog. And I kind of like the ongoing pot-as-sandwiches thing.
Castle, "Countdown." OMG Ryan and Esposito pulling Beckett and Castle out of the freezer is just like Beckett and Castle rescuing Ryan and Esposito from the hit man a few weeks ago!
One thing I really love about Castle is how empathetic he is (you know, along with the monumental self-involvement). That moment where he was talking to Beckett about the DHS guy and how hard it must be, classic Castle.
And then Castle almost asking Beckett out, probably for a friendly dinner or something (I don't think he was going to say anything super monumental there) but backing off when Josh came into view and being all sadface in the elevator? I'm really enjoying pining!Castle.
White Collar, "Power Play." OMG the fan service! You know, like Mozzie and June talking in grifter code while teaching Peter the game using Byron's old training jacket. Or the insane OT3'ing going on, especially after last week. And of course all the teasing Peter and Neal were doing. We got a new case AND lots of progress on the ongoing one. Good, since next week is the end of the season and the entire music box plot is to be wrapped up by then.
I like the way that Alex is included. Now it makes a ton of sense that she had the key to the music box and was behind Neal trying to steal it in the first place-and why she was all over Adler. I will be sad if she gets bumped off, but that's not really the show's style.
I've heard through the grapevine that the fandom is Displeased by the whole Sara thing but I really like it. I liked her little revelation, her sharing pictures with Peter (eventual OT4 anyone?) and her moment with Neal in the archive was mutual and sexy. Sure, Neal's wistful look at Peter and El before leaving the museum was a bit telegraphish, but this show isn't always subtle about the "Neal wants his life to maybe be different" thing.
Plus I still feel that Sara is the daughter of
Banacek and Carlie. I know no one understands what the hell, but that's my head canon.
Top Chef, "Give Me Your Huddled Masses." I'm not going to get all up in arms about the non elimination, probably because Project Runway has done it so many times that I sort of don't care. They'll kick out two people next week, blah blah blah. I wonder if both Richie and Antonia will cook against Stephanie, or if one of them will cook against Hung or some shit. I think for the next two shows I'll have to spoil myself before actually watching the episode because I CARE TOO MUCH. Richard and Carla have to make it to the end, y'all, and I'm only rooting for Richard a little more because if he doesn't win he'll be devastated.
But back to this week. I'm glad that Mike stopped being a dick, and he and Antonia resolved their antagonism as a cousin/sibling thing. I'm glad Carla has her groove back. I'm excited to see more ladies than men in the top five.
Justified, "For Blood or Money." The best part of this episode, hands down, is when Rachel, Tim and Raylan sat in Art's office talking about their shitty fathers, and Raylan said that shooting his father was much less fun than he'd expected.
I'm glad we got some Rachel backstory but I wish she'd actually been in the episode a little more, instead of our following her shit-for-brains brother-in-law. Other than that there isn't a lot to say because it's all stuff being put into place for later, which happens in these early episodes. I'm really okay with that.
