It was interesting to see how it was that your Kirk/McCoy interest evolved over the year and I'm going to check back through this list and catch up with anything I missed. I sympathise with what you say about competitions - the great thing about them is that they seem to focus writers and we 'make' people produce some amazing stories fast. It's also a nice contrast to all the months that STBB seems to suck up writers' time. I like competition if it's occasional, if that makes sense.

It was so lovely getting to know you this year, bb, and I'm impressed with how many different fandoms you are able to write in - happy New Year!

Oh, I totally think that competitions have an important role and are clearly very popular! I was just saying they aren't for me, and that's okay, too.

And I'm still really behind on reading and reviewing. I'd caught up a good bit before space_wrapped and managed to comment at-the-time on the BBs, but now I'm back to the backlog, although as I go through KMc in the spring there's so much ship battle stuff that I'm moving right along.

It was totally lovely getting to know you too! I'm so pleased that you asked me to help mod, because it's work but awesome work, even when very occasionally frustrating. It's nice to be involved with such a great group of people! Thanks again!!

The thing is, your being out of step with slash fandom is such a valuable thing for people who are also out of step--or you know, not even out of step but who just don't always want to be on that same road. I was actually just talking about your fic to somebody the other day and saying how I like it so much for dealing with things that you just rarely see in fandom. Not in a big way, like writing a different ship or writing a specific kink or whatever, but for dealing with other areas of life that effect the slash. (For instance, people being able to have more than one really important relationship or even passion in their life at the same time!)

When I'm having a good attitude day I totally agree with you, and certainly that's true of shipping a small ship, that you're even more valuable to the other people who also ship that small ship. But sometimes I get overwhelmed with the muchness of it! So I'm trying to get to this place where I expose myself to the hegemony much less. FS is a great help with that, actually, because it reminds me of how diverse fandom really is. (Not reading metafandom anymore helps, too.) The more it all becomes just the dull rumbling background noise, the better I do!

That said, even though KMc is a popular white boy slash ship, I find that the shippers are really into ensemble fics and other characters showing up and being important in a way that idol fandom never was but HP fandom totally was. I love Ryan and Simon so much, but leaving Idol fandom will be really freeing.
