DVR really saves the Olympics for the sports fans. You don't have to sit through endless packages about how Mary Carillo went to the Netherlands and omg they love speedskating or whatever; you can just watch the goddamned speedskating. There really is something quintessentially 70s about it, the variety show TV and the blurred line between children's shows and grown up shows and how the disco thing really came out of the old fashioned musical thing.

ITA on the Olympics--TiVO makes the pain go away. Now if I could only get what I've always fantastized about--the full-feed, no-commentary version. I want to watch the Latvian ice dancers suck, and I want to do it without Dick Button incorrectly naming their steps.

I feel your pain, but I adore Dick Button. He's such a bitch. Also a Harvard man so I feel a certain amount of loyalty. Though actually last week I feasted on old skating videos and you know, Scott Hamilton really does know when to talk and when to shut up. He's gotten quite good as a commentator.

I'd love full feed but I'm not one of those sticklers hating on the time delay. I mean, even when I know the results, I still like to watch them actually skate/ski/slide. It's amazing how close they got to full feed for Beijing. I watched the heck out of badminton.

I watched Liza with a Z over and over again when I was studying for my written comps. Somehow singing along to "Say Yes" made me feel calmer. And her recent tour was apparently quite well received.

ZOMG you're a skating fan! I have a cabinet stuffed full of videos from the '90s, back when I skated myself. I love Dick but the dear man doesn't know what he's talking about half the time. And Scotty has indeed gotten better about shouting "Yes!" and "Ohhh!" like he's home on the sofa.

(Speaking of skating, did you see Elvis Stojko mouthing off about how men's skating has gotten too "feminine"? Shut up, Elvis. We like it fine the way it is)
