Didn't sleep great last night for no real reason, so I spent the morning dozing in bed, and then getting some things off the TIVO. When I exited out, the TV was playing the tail end of Guiding Light-and I stuck around to watch, because y'all?
The last ever Bauer Barbeque! An institution on 4th of July on GL for decades.
Apparently GL is very cleverly able to put in all this wistful melancholy "goodbye to all that" through the framing device of Phillip Spaulding coming home to Springfield because he's dying, and it's that same actor they always had. So the end of the episode was all sad, about Phillip thinking of his last Bauer Barbeque. Seriously, it is impossible for me to wrap my mind around this show being cancelled after over 50 years!
