Date for Project Runway: November 14th! I am so not watching Better Half in the meantime.
I really loved
the last two episodes of Top Chef. I thought the eliminations were spot on, and I think Dale, Casey and Hung will make a great final three. As
ali_wildgoose said, MinoriTeam! A straight white man won't win this year.
Sara is a great chef but finally got to the place where she was a little over her head and as Colicchio said on his blog, she doesn't need the title to be a cheesemaker (though I'm sure the money would have helped). But I did love the way she handled Howie in the restaurant wars episodes, and her general attitude about the entire thing.
Brian is clearly good, but wasn't served by the pressure cooker that is the top chef competition. He could get unfocussed and hyper, as in the restaurant wars and the quickfire in aspen. I think he needs someone to act as his ballast. But he clearly has that up at his own restaurant, and it's fabulous that he won a local award.
About the whole Hung and his soul thing, clearly he's been relying on his technique. All along the competition he seemed to think that this was all about who was trained the best, but it never was. It was about who was going to cook the best. That said, he always did have a lot of respect for Tre. I'm looking forward to what he'll do in the finale, and I hope he does take Colicchio's words to heart. He does need to show us who HE is in order to win-what would his restaurant be like? With Harold, and even Ilan, we had a very good idea.
Casey and Dale are good foils, as Dale is all emotion, and yet has consistently taken chances in this competition. He has his weaknesses, but he's very aware of them, and works around them. Casey is just solid, cooking good, simple but inventive food with interesting flavors, so I think she really has what it takes. Also, she's shown leadership in her ability to keep people calm and just rise above whatever bullshit they throw at her. In the infamous food truck episode she was very unhappy to be cooking in her going-out clothing, but she rose above that and made a good dish.
Meanwhile, I got an email the other day that Harold's restaurant is going to start serving brunch this weekend. I like a super cheap brunch myself, but maybe this is something to think about doing as a treat some weekend this fall or spring.
