Memes

I'm so mad, because my dishwasher just died. WOE! Anyway. Two memes.

First, from erinfinnegan via calloocallay, Year of Your Birth Youtube Meme: Type the year of your birth into a youtube search and post one of the results. Now, I was born in 1969 so it was SO tough. There's Woodstock, the Stones concert in Hyde Park, the Beatles playing Get Back on the roof of Apple Records, the moon landing, those "You've Come a Long Way Baby" Virginia Slims ads, clips of Sharon Tate (who was killed by Charles Manson's followers when she was nine months pregnant-her due date was two weeks before I was born) and the original version of Kermit singing "It's Not Easy Bein' Green." But then I found the perfect clip of the Sesame Street character that was my favorite when I was a tyke, and it has that period flava I was looking for:

From heidi8, a TV meme. Name six tv shows you're watching this season (before looking at the questions):
1. American Idol
2. CSI
3. How I Met Your Mother
4. Studio 60
5. Ugly Betty
6. Veronica Mars

01. Who is your favorite character from #2? (CSI)
Nick Stokes. He's just so nice.

02. Who is your least favorite character from #4? (Studio 60)
There are so many annoying characters. Hard to choose between Harriet and Matt, but Matt gets a bump for being mostly just self-destructive (and for being played by Matthew Perry) so it's Harriet for being so fucking stupid.

03. What would a crossover between #1 and #5 include? (American Idol, Ugly Betty)
Wow. I think it would mostly be that the gang from Mode would get tix to a taping of American Idol as some sort of marketing tie-in, like featuring the contestants or maybe the judges + Ryan, or maybe the entire gang, in a photo shoot. Claire Meade would be talking to Paula about substances to abuse; Randy would be hitting on Wil; Marc would be trying to get Ryan to admit that he's gay; Justin would be trying to get Simon to listen to him sing and Simon would tell him he's "too cabaret"; Hilda would be trying to get a job as a stylist; Chris R and Blake would be perving on Alexis; and Betty and Melinda would become fast friends.

04. Who is your favorite ship from #6? (Veronica Mars)
Logan/Lilly. Or maybe Keith/woman he almost had affair with played by Laura San Giacomo in awesome Just Shoot Me reunion.

05. If you were to set one person from #3 and one person from #6 on a blind date, who would they be? (How I Met Your Mother, Veronica Mars)
I would only want to set up Ted on a blind date with his Woman Of Destiny, who cannot be found in Neptune. And I like Lily and Marshall too much to split them up, and there isn't a guy who feels quite right for Robin. So I think I'd set up Barney with Madison, and they can fight to the death.

06. If you could meet one person from #4 and spend the day with them, who would it be, and what would you do? (Studio 60)
I'd ask Tom to give me that awesome tour of Studio 60 that he gave his parents, and then maybe go to the beach or for a great drive around the canyons, and then make him dinner and canoodle, because he is super cute.

07. If you could change one thing about #2's plot line, what would you change? (CSI)
Wow. Maybe have Warrick not have got married and instead get together with Catherine, because her constant affairs are really tiresome, and her daughter could do with a man in the house, and Warrick is definitely enough man for Catherine. And I'd love to see the sparks when Cath tries to get Warrick to do something he does not want to do.

08. Explain a relationship between two people (not necessarily romantic) from show #5, and why you like the relationship between them. (Ugly Betty)
In the Mexican telenovela that Ugly Betty is based on, Betty and Daniel get together at the end. Obviously Daniel would have to really grow up to make that happen, but I hope that this production goes its own way (the way that Queer As Folk did) and keep Betty and Daniel as good friends. I love that Daniel really appreciates Betty for who she is even as he doesn't kid either of them that she is or ever could be a glamazon. I love that even while Betty is taking care of Daniel she's prodding him to take care of himself.

09. If the lead title characters (first name in the credits) from #1 and #3 were both drowning, and you could only save one, who would it be? (American Idol, How I Met Your Mother)
Much as I love Ted, it would have to be Ryan because he's a real person.

10. If you could change the title characters' order in the credits for #4, what order would you choose? (Studio 60)
I don't know that I would. I might want Nate Corddry further up, because I think he's the most interesting member of the "big three" rather than Simon, but other than that, I think it's good.

11. If you were able to add a new character, any kind of character you wanted, to the storyline for #6, what would the character be like, and what would their role be? (Veronica Mars)
I would have said "a cool bf for Mac" but she got one on her own. So hrm. I want an interesting, challenging, intelligent woman to walk into Keith's office, NOT married, and femme fatale him all the way to the altar, like in Laura.

12. What happens in your favourite episode of show #2? (CSI)
In "Gum Drops" a family has been murdered and the daughter kidnapped. Only Nick believes that she's alive, driven to find her because of his own kidnapping. In the end, he was right. I love the way this episode is able to explore the character dynamics between Nick, Warrick, Sara and Greg, without Cath or Gil there to be the clear leader. It shows the depth of cast that CSI has.

13. If you could kill off one of the characters in #1, who would it be and how would you do it? (American Idol)
Sanjaya, by hanging him by his goddamned hair.

14. If you got the chance to visit the set for either show #3 or show #5, which would you choose? (How I Met Your Mother, Ugly Betty)
Ugly Betty, because the set is insane and also because then I could meet Vanessa Williams AND Salma Hayek, not to mention America Ferrara.

15. If you could date anyone from any of these shows, which show and which person?
Keith Mars, from Veronica Mars.

My own classic favorites:
1. The Mary Tyler Moore Show
2. WKRP in Cincinnati
3. Murphy Brown
4. The Dick Van Dyke Show
5. Remington Steele
6. Six Feet Under

01. Who is your favorite character from #2? (WKRP in Cincinnati)
Bailey Quarters

02. Who is your least favorite character from #4? (The Dick Van Dyke Show)
Robbie, the little kid, because he was sort of annoying and hardly ever around.

03. What would a crossover between #1 and #5 include? (The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Remington Steele)
It would have to include Mr. Steele trying to get information out of Ted and understanding him better than anyone else, Laura butting heads with Mary and in the end, grudgingly respecting her, and something that Murray didn't even know he knew being the key to the entire mystery.

04. Who is your favorite ship from #6? (Six Feet Under)
David/Keith.

05. If you were to set one person from #3 and one person from #6 on a blind date, who would they be? (Murphy Brown, Six Feet Under)
I'd set up Frank Fontana with Brenda's mother Margaret, though I have no idea why.

06. If you could meet one person from #4 and spend the day with them, who would it be, and what would you do? (The Dick Van Dyke Show)
Sally Rogers! We'd hang out in the writer's room all day, then hit the town and pick us up some smooth talking men, and I'd try to get her to ditch that ridiculous hair bow.

07. If you could change one thing about #2's plot line, what would you change? (WKRP in Cincinnati)
You know, I don't think I would change anything. It didn't really have a through plot, anyway, but everything on the show was fantastic. Maybe make the Bailey/Johnny thing more ongoing and explicit?

08. Explain a relationship between two people (not necessarily romantic) from show #5, and why you like the relationship between them. (Remington Steele)
I could write a book about Laura Holt and Remington Steele as they're one of my favorite romantic pairings ever. I love how their characters developed over the course of the series, and how Mr. Steele was so much smarter than he seemed.

09. If the lead title characters (first name in the credits) from #1 and #3 were both drowning, and you could only save one, who would it be? (The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Murphy Brown)
Mary. Murphy can save herself. So can Mary, but without Mary there never would have been a Murphy anyway.

10. If you could change the title characters' order in the credits for #4, what order would you choose? (The Dick Van Dyke Show)
I wouldn't! Rob-Laura-Sally-Buddy. Totally the right order.

11. If you were able to add a new character, any kind of character you wanted, to the storyline for #6, what would the character be like, and what would their role be? (Six Feet Under)
See, the thing about these shows is that they were so well done that I don't want to change anything about them!

12. What happens in your favourite episode of show #2? (WKRP in Cincinnati)
The one where there's a bomb threat at the station, so Johnny and Venus do their shows from the transmitter, only Johnny is all paranoid about the phone company coming to get him because he won't pay his bill or something, so when the folks back at the station realize that the bomb is at the transmitter, not the station, and send the police, Johnny becomes convinced that the phone cops are coming to get him.

13. If you could kill off one of the characters in #1, who would it be and how would you do it? (The Mary Tyler Moore Show)
Hmm. Perhaps Sue Ann Nivens. I'd plunge a knitting needle into her temple.

14. If you got the chance to visit the set for either show #3 or show #5, which would you choose? (Murphy Brown, Remington Steele)
Remington Steele because hello, Pierce Brosnan!

15. If you could date anyone from any of these shows, which show and which person?
Hmm. While I would want to say Miles Silverberg because wow, the crush I had on him at the time, his character was based on Jeff Zucker who is completely annoying. So instead, Venus Flytrap, because he was so hot and so smooth and super intelligent and really funny.
