Grammys

Feb 20, 2007 20:52

Because I forgot and I want to get it off my TIVO. Put down more for posterity than anything else as I didn't see anyone really talking about it on my flist.

I don't have much to say about the awards themselves except HA that the Dixie Chicks got Country Album of the Year. As they said, the Grammys often reward those who are talented but don't fit that Nashville mold, like Alison Krauss. So go them. Idolator noted that it was like, the year the Grammys went midtempo and dude, so true.

I would ask why The Police slowed down Roxanne so much, but you know, whatever. Andy and Stewart looked great.

I think it was Idolator that noted that all the women were dressed in Jessica McClintock prom dresses (and since I went to prom in 1987 I can say, it's true) but at least the Dixie Chicks had an excuse-evoking the Victorian dresses they wore in their video for "I'm Not Ready to Back Down." Which they sounded excellent performing.

Prince? That white suit and blue shirt was KILLER. Meanwhile, Beyonce, whatever with that lame Dreamgirls song. You went to rehearsal, you knew you'd be backlit, so why did you wear that dress? *skips*

I really love the Justin song, so I loved the performance, and the addition of the guitar.

I also liked the Corinne Bailey Rae/John Legend/John Mayer thing, especially since they didn't to a medley, but did nearly all of those three songs, and were a nice blend singing and playing together. It was a good idea.

God, was "Hips Don't Lie" this year? *skips*

I love Cee-Lo and Dangermouse in their pilot outfits. So contemporary, and yet so like, mid-60s ridiculous movie, especially with the the bright white lights behind them. I just wish they hadn't slowed the song down!

Mary J. made me cry. I also loved her hair and her husband's gold bow tie.

Things I never need to listen to in my lifetime include Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flats doing a three-song tribute to the Eagles. *skips*

Smokey sounds great but needs to hold back on the botox. I can't listen to "Hello" by Lionel Ritchie without thinking of that creepy video with the student making the bust of him at the end. At least Chris Brown had some N-R-G!

Oh my god, Christina is ON FIRE. She was AMAZING, singing "It's a Man's World." I want that mp3 like, yesterday. She also looked great in that white suit, even when the dry ice cloud almost overwhelmed her. (People, hold back on the effects. We all know she's ickle.) As Jamie Foxx said, "That's the shit right there."

I have a secret love for the "these are people who died, died" montage. There's always some "I didn't know they died!" in it. For me this year that was probably Frankie Laine, or maybe Gene Pitney.

LU-DA-KRIS. And Mary J. rocking a red pantsuit and a Farrah Flip on a stage with Earth, Wind and Fire like it's 1979 and she's singing back up for Boogie Wonderland or something. Nothing like EWF to give you that effect of 25 people on the stage.

Things I don't need to see in my lifetime part 2: James Blunt. *skips*

OMG that Prince ad? He rules.

Jennifer Hudson looks great, but why did they relegate her and Latifah to doing this stupid contest? What is that about? The girl who won, and got to sing with Justin, was apparently a reject on Idol during Hollywood week. She sounded fine but lame to put her into such a choreographed number when her stagecraft isn't really all that yet was a little, well, awkward. But at least Justin looked like he was having a good time.

Ah, RHCP. Say, why was Chad playing drums for the Dixie Chicks, anyway?
