I spent 2.5 hours at the hospital today, first talking with the infectious disease specialist and then going for a number of tests. Based on my symptoms, they think that I may have something more systemic than Lyme disease- the words Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Crones disease, thyroid, mono and others were suggested and I will be tested for all of these, as well as, about six others. They did a chest x-ray to see if my lymph nodes were swollen, which would also suggest something more systemic.
I gave a lot of blood and a lot of urine. Hopefully after this, they will be able to eliminate a lot of things from the list. A tick-born illness will be a fall back diagnosis, because at this point they have exhausted their means to diagnose a tick-born illness.
I continue to remain hopeful that they will figure it out and it is not a big deal, although it is a bit tough to remain optimistic and was on the verge of tears due to being overwhelmed by so many tests and uncertainty.
O is in DC for neuroscience conference. It would have been nice to have someone lean on earlier today as I was ready to break down...oh well.
