Inspiration
A while back, I said I was going to make a post on inspiration, and what inspired me to go on with RUBY RED. Plus, I'll use this post as a way to post some teasers on what my new story will be on. ;)
So, RUBY RED inspiration. As I mentioned in my previous post, the idea first came about whilst watching the BBC version of Jane Eyre, and reading TITHE by Holly Black. From TITHE came the incomprehensible need to include faeries, and it inspired my favourite character in the novel, a seductive kelpie called Renfrew.
Then, halfway through my novel, I was inspired to add in three more characters. Characters that were inspired by Melissa Marr's WICKED LOVELY series. These three characters, which I came to call Mamu, Sasu and Tallu, the Ghillie Dhu brothers, came into existence after being so inspired by the faeries of the Summer Court in WICKED LOVELY.
I read Hush, Hush during the NaNo period, and it had inspired a sort of 'bad boy' character in the form of Renfrew the kelpie, but I didn't want a creepy bad boy, I wanted someone with purely selfish motives, someone who had no regard for the girl, until the end, when he is redeemed. I find a lot of novels fail in the whole bad boy concept, so it sort of made me try hard to make sure that RUBY RED wouldn't end up like that.
Those were books which had inspired me, now, time for music.

10. Coldplay - Viva La Vida
11. Dream Theater - Space Dye Vest
12. Taylor Swift - Love Story
13. Lillium , main theme from the anime Elfen Lied.
14. Architecture in Helsinki - One Heavy February
15. Klaus Badelt - Fog Bound
16. Lion King Soundtrack - Be Prepared
17. Borodin: Prince Igor Polovstian Dances
18. Carter Burwell - Dirt Clod Fight
That's just a few of the thousands of songs in my RUBY RED playlist. I'm really not joking. I have almost 6,000 songs in that playlist, and these are the ones that had the biggest influence on the progression of the story.
Now, for some lovely images. Just some things which sparked an interest. Most of these pics come from DeviantArt.
