First, this is being crossposted to all of my journals - Sorry if you get this mult. times - I want to make sure everyone has the info necessary to get to the wake and/or funeral if they so choose.
----
For those who are no longer in the area, or who have not yet heard - as I had not until Kimmel called me - there was a MVA (motor vehicle accident) early this morning (06/17) and we lost someone we knew and loved.
Early this morning, Mr. (Joe) Marks was driving on his way to Sullivan High School where he has been principal now for the past few years when his Jeep was struck from the side by a pickup truck on Rte 121. From the report I got, it appeared he was pulling onto 121 and likely never saw the truck. Of course NONE of these details are anything but second/third/(or more) hand at this point and nothing is 'official.' I do, however, know that he is gone.
As far as I know to this point, there are tentative funeral arrangements made through Edwards Funeral Home for visitation on Friday with burial on Saturday. I have no information as of yet to where condolences or donations may be made, but as soon as I do, I will let you all know.
Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. We all know his wife and the kids (Jessie was in Eth's class) who were with him everywhere around school - and I know that tonight and in all the nights to come for a good long while - they're going to need all of the good thoughts and prayers that anyone can send their way.
I, for one, know tonight I will have a good cry thinking on all the things that he'd taught me over the years - academically and personally. He was one of my very first teachers in Arcola - and some how his class was never quite as scary as some of the others and he always had a sense of humor (even when he put a terantula on my damn desk - or I threw up in his class room because I couldnt stand the smell of the embalming stuff when dissecting frogs!) - He was an amazing teacher, a great coach, a very GOOD person, but most importantly, a loving husband, and a FANTASTIC father - and you knew that instantly every time you saw him with his kids.
