What is a stereotype?? A stereotype is the way society views a certain individual depending on occupation, race, hair color or anything used to identify that character even though it may not be necessarily true. For example the characters that were in the movie Stranger Than Fiction. To further examine them ill start off with Harold the taxman. Harold was a meticulous character that carried out daily routine schedules and repetitive days, everyone hated him because of his occupation and he was a very boring man. How much more stereotypical can you get about a taxman than that?? Also another character that was stereotyped was the writer Karen Eiffel. Karen from the moment she was introduced in the movie was a complete mess. She was suffering from writers block so she put herself in all sorts of settings to try and unblock herself and continue writing. She was a severe smoker, which I found repulsive, and an old lady. So with this being said I do believe that the characters in this movie were stereotyped. These characters being stereotyped contributed to the meaning of the film because in the end you cannot control how society will view you as a person until you have proven to them that you are not the person that they think you are. As for the film its message was that one has to go about their life and live it the best we can because one can’t control everything that happens in it and one of the things that we cannot control is how society will view you as an individual.
