juggling

Alright, I admit it, I'm a terrible journaler.  Online, offline, doesn't matter, I just don't prioritize it, so it doesn't get done.  Sigh.  Anyhow, this is just a quick post to acknowledge how much I'm enjoying E's school.  Visiting artists, african drumming, gymnastics they get bussed to every week during the school day, endless options for extracurriculars.  A couple weeks ago the older kids were all running around with their homemade digeridoos they made and learned to play in concert.  Strategy game night, word game night, juggling night, etc. etc.  Soon they start afterschool enrichment programs, I hope to teach one on drawing and painting trees.  Anyhow, what got me on this was this week's visiting artist, Jen Slaw. She's a pro juggler from the east coast that they bring in each year, and she's great - funny, talented, and good with the kids.  Every kid gets to work with her every day, and friday they have a performance for us familiies.  E's done juggling scarves and balancing peacock feathers on his hand, finger, and chin.  She's won lots of juggling awards and today we were watching some of her stuff online.  Her site has this video:

And there are oddles of performance videos on youtube.  Pretty fun for E to get to work with kind, talented people with very diverse interests, then get to look them up online and see them again.   He loves it, and so do I!  Kieran is very jealous, and wants to go to school badly.  Poor guy still has 2.5 years to wait.

On a personal note, I just discovered that one of the very few watercolor painters whose work I genuinely enjoy lives in Spokane and is doing a workshop there in a few weeks.  Fortunately for me, there were two spots open, so I'm going, and I am so very excited!!!  I've been feeling very down on my work lately, wishing I had a decent instructor to learn more from, and was considering drivng to Seattle for some very pricey workshops.  I like this artist's work far better, and his workshop is under $100.  I can't wait!  If you want to check him out, here's his site:  http://stanmiller.net/Gallery.htm
