Don't ask her on a straight tequila night

Stream of Consciousness

So it's come to this.

It's around 11:30 at night. I'm watching the crap that has become MTV. I'm watching Parental Control. If you've never seen it, you're not missing anything.

Everything is so scripted. It reminds me of a Pablo Francisco joke about Jerry Springer. He talks about how Jerry just loves to start shit. Guest: "I don't like blacks, Mexicans or Chinese people!" Jerry: "Well I just happen to have some blacks, some Mexicans and Chinese people here today. Here's a gun, do something with the gun."

What is reality anymore?

I stopped after the first Survivor, to be honest. I watched one episode of American Idol and just thought "Wow. This sucks."

It goes back to MTV, naturally. This former music channel (music!?!?! HA!) brought you The Real World. Then Road Rules. Then Real World vs. Road Rules.

Then "My Super Sweet 16."

That's why the terrorists hate us. "But Daddy! You promised you'd invent me a hovercar and have P.Diddy perform at my party at the Taj Mahal!"

At least MTV isn't involving washed-up B-list celebs. Does anyone really care who Flava Flav is dating? And who the fuck is New York? Better yet, who thought she deserved her own "reality" show?

Girls, if you're pretty and bitchy enough, you too can have your own reality show!

Anyway, before I start to sound too much like a raving lunatic... I'm getting kinda bored with journalism. The more I read, the more I want to write books. I have some ideas, but I doubt I could write a full-length book on them.

I'm tired of covering high school sports. For now at least. It's too easy sometimes.

I'm tired of being a professional. I'm the oldest 21-year-old I can think of. I'm tired of thinking about my career. Some nights, I want to just get drunk, wake up in another bed and not think twice about it. I want to live what people think is the "normal" college life of random hook-ups and partying. Damn my penchant for quick promotions.

Tim O'Brien is an amazing writer. Go read some of his stuff.
