Second Opinion Time

So, Brainwave is at a loss. Corrine keeps blinking out of reality for 5 second stretches and that's after the hangover has started wearing off. Plus, based on what she drank, her tolerence, and her body weight there is no way Merlynne should have even touched hangover territory. Sand and Trevor have gone to chat with the bartender about what ( Read more... )

Corrine is not following any of this. The whole 'dead' possibility is kind of overpowering everything. Tara might as well have been trying to convince a tiger to sprout leaves for all the 'don't panic' warnings.

"So I'm j-- gonna--" There's a bit of a strobe light effect when she waves her hands around. "Poof? We're not ev-- really sure what, or wh--, or why. Are we gu--sing?" She comes down on the chair behind her pretty hard, and the head goes into the lap.

"Okay, besi-- --ot panicing, WHAT can I do here because I'm not feeling the sane right now and I NEED something to do."

"Who might have wanted to poison you? I mean, if I'm right about the wormwood, and you're a holy mage, this was pretty targeted to you. So the question becomes... who did it?"

"We also have to consider the idea that this may not be solely about you, Corrine." Hank said. "Maybe you're death is a dagger meant to be buried in someone else?"

"Indeed," says Fate. "Or possibly even as a means to achieve power. A sacrifice. Corrine Bertrand is a being of much power, and as I said before, her line of destiny crosses many paths."

Oh, this just gets more entertaining by the minute. "So, who's pi-- at me, or possibly someone I --ow, or even possibly, it has not--g to do with anyone but I'm a ni-- looking tar-- anyway. Wooooo--rful."

She flops her head into a hand and thinks. "My papa coul-- do something like this. --on't see anyone else in my family hon--y caring enough to p-- --s much work into seeing me de--. --ey'd just sniper-sh-- me if they really wan-- it done. Neron se--d less than interested in me, and-- well, Grundy and Sor--w are the only people I've miffed rece--. Fate sits by Corrine, taking off his helmet, leaving only Hector Hall.

"I'm afraid I don't know," he says. "Like I said, it may not be personal at all. In a very real way, you are magic. When you're powers are functioning, you're directly in touch with the flow of magic itself. That's a lot of power, and that kind of power is a target."

He sighs. Corrine's someone he's had an affinity with since she first was drawn to them by Fate's helm. It's not as tight as his bond with Gemma, but they're connected. She carried the mantle for him while he was ... unable. He has no intention of letting her down now.

"The Detective probably has more alchemical resources than I do. Once we have you stabilized, we can see about tracing the source of the magics. This is somethign big. There's not a lot of players around with that kind of power."

"Okaaaaay, well, um Sand and Trevor are tracking that down...Chimp, Fate...Think you can get me some dusty books somewhere with the receipe for fixing this?"

"I can hop on up to the Watchtower. They've been letting me up there lately... checking in on my new alien buddies. They've got a nifty computer system. I could do some research on that."

He heads towards the door. "I can also always shortcut through... well, there's a place I go that's close to everywhere. Makes a good way to get around quickly. So I can find you guys wherever you are, if you keep me in the loop."

He stops by the door, and glances at Dr. Fate. "Unless you've got any cool little toys in that mystic bag of tricks that'd be more reliable for getting to them..."

Hector Hall dons the Helm of Nabu. The transformation is palpable.

"The doorway through Oblivion Bar no longer reaches the Watchtower, Detective Chimp. I Have seen to that route's closing myself recently. But I can transport you to the Justice League's nearest transporter station."

He returns his attention to Tara.

"Corrine Bertrand's physiology is ... unique. I will return to my tower and begin a search for a cure to her condition. Between myself and the detctive, something will arise."

"Alright, then. I'm ready when you are." The Chimp reaches into his pocket for a flask and takes a quick swig while waiting.

"Hmmm ... time is of the essence ..."

He lays his palm flat, and a burst of light erupts from his hand, swirling in the air and coalescing into a small, golden ball.

He hands it to the detective.

"This will bring you to Corrine, or summon me, whichever you deem more neccesary."

He raises his arms and a portal emerges.

"Corrine Bertrand, Tara Strong, Henry King Jr. We will return."

And Fate walks through the portal.

Tara turns to Corrine. "Real party you've got going." To Brainwave. "Let's go study like it's finals."

Now that all the fanfare is done for the moment, Corrine pulls the blanket back over her head and makes off for the couch. She swishes a finger around in the air like a party favor.

"Whoo-hoo."
