It's been a while since Ray's been to San Francisco. Idly, as he navigates the rental car through the narrow, hilly streets, he tugs at his memory to recall his last visit. Five years ago, fighting the Injustice League? That thing with IQ and the megacomputer virus?
"Geez," he thinks, "I've got to stop associating things with fights."
As he drives, he catches a glimpse of Titans Tower, and ponders stopping in to visit, but really, he's not feeling social, and frankly, his time with the Titans was ignoble, at best. Although he does briefly ponder calling Joto when he gets back, setting him up as Ryan's research assistant while he's gone.
"Gone," he thinks. "It sounds so ... final."
Still, the JLA seemed to get on with Ryan well. Hard to tell until you put them in a fight together, though, but Ryan will handle himself fine. Indeed, Ray feels a twinge of guilt about strongarming the JLA into taking his choice of replacements -- not that he's done anything official yet -- but really, they'd never give him a moment's peace otherwise. Sure, it's all good for a while, and then Julian September or Amazo pop up, and they hit their speed dial. It's not that they don't want to be supportive, it's just ...
"They don't get it," he says out loud as he pulls into the parking lot. "They really can't understand what this thing with Jean is like."
He flashes a security clearance and walks to the hospital wing, pushing everything else from his mind. He's got business ahead of him, an injured Justice Leaguer, although admittedly one he's not close to.
He raps on the door as he pushes it open.
"Blue Devil?" he says gently, making sure the hero is awake.
