Dateline : Hub City

May 29, 2006 20:42

Just an hour ago, he'd disembarked from a train - a train that had carried him from his adopted Gotham home, to Hub City. A lot of similarities between the two - but Gotham was dark, and fearful. Hub City, on the other hand, was caked in layers of grime that even Gotham couldn't compete with ( Read more... )

He'd just returned from another patrol -- more like a prowl, an animal on a hunt not for sport, not for kill, not to eat, it's not the thrill, it's the life survive not extinct -- and had made his way inside the apartment through a window.

Seemed best at the time.

The knock catches Vic off guard, and he raises a brow. Fork up his sleeve, just in case--

He opens the door, and it's a face he hasn't seen in quite some time.

"...Sensei?"

He grins broadly.

"Got it in one. Took me a little while to find the place - but most butterflies are elusive creatures. How've you been?"

Nostalgia, again. Popular mood for Richard, lately.

Heh. It's shakey, and it looks like he hasn't for awhile, but. Vic does indeed smile back to him.

"Hard to say. Want inside?" He opens the door in offering. "Not quite homely, but. Help yourself."

Richard nods, slipping inside the apartment, pausing to take in the surroundings.

"Chaotic. A man's home often reflects his state of mind - things been a little rough for you lately?"

He looks around for a likely place to sit.

The meaningful look... makes him a bit abashed, if it can be described that way. Vic glances back to his tea uncomfortably, eyes narrowing. There's no malice for Richard, but admitting he's weak enough to ask for help is... strange for him. If anyone jumps in to aid him, Vic doesn't ask and flows with it, but to actually request it...

"I'm not in trouble." He's clearly alive and has all his body parts!

A single red eyebrow raises, expression dripping with wry skepticism.

"I can't help you if you don't want to be helped, Vic, you know that. But I think your abilities are difficult for you sometimes. And there's something else I can't put my finger on."

Abilities. Right. The ones he... learned and gradually accepted into his own. Chi is nothing unfamiliar for Richard.

"I don't mind help." But he won't ask. "...Talking. To everything. It's hard sometimes. Do you hear?"

How the wind wails? How the crackling gravel moans? How the alleys haunt? How it all...

How the cities plead?

"Do you Hear them?"

He smiles. "Not quite with the same intensity and clarity that you do. Impressions. Vague energy. Chi's brightest with the living, for me - the inanimate sometimes echoes it, though."

He looks up suddenly. "Do you just listen to it all, and ask questions? Or have you tried talking back?"
