A New Year. A New Life. A New Start.

Christmas had come and gone and the New Year had trickled by. This was the first time that Jack had experienced the season of goodwill alone, yet somehow he wasn’t entirely bothered by it. It was the sort of thing that happened when you suddenly upped sticks and moved halfway across the world. In hindsight, he’d been rash and impulsive, running like an idiot after Harley and leaving his entire life back in England.

London had been a place to start again and forget the past. After his brush with the Joker and, let’s face it, Batman, there had been nothing left for him in Gotham. With strict orders from the Bat himself to keep the patch in place and The Creeper at bay, he’d had no choice but to leave. He wasn’t completely keen on being spied on by anyone never mind Batman - because of course he must have been watching. Jeez, he even had to think before he brushed his teeth just in case it was deemed unsuitable behaviour.

Okay, so maybe his reaction had been extreme and yeah, the Batman probably did have much better things to do than spy on a boring Anchor Man. But leaving was still the only way to shake the feeling and leave it all behind…including Harley.

Harley Quinn. The most beautiful gal in all the land.

The timing had been off. She had been in her criminal prime, sucked in by flour face to fight the bad fight.

But things were different now. Jack was comfortable with his alter ego. Batman was not aware of his presence in Gotham and if and when he did become aware, Jack was strong enough to deal with it. The Creeper was buried beneath the patch and Jack did not intend to ever release him without good reason.

Yes, two weeks ago he’d let him out to play. It was either that or let an old lady get mugged and beaten. He’d had no choice and surely even Batman would see that.

And now that Harley had been captured after her Keystone rampage there was hope there too. It didn’t matter that she wasn’t in Gotham. She was in custody and that meant that she was getting help.

It was a darn good start.
