Meanwhile, on Brownstone monitor duty...

Nov 26, 2005 11:54

There's an eerie echo to the circumstances.

Two years ago, on this very holiday, Dr. Mid-Nite had volunteered for monitor duty for the express purpose avoiding Dinah Lance, who had casually dumped him when news of Oliver Queen's resurrection came - she'd called him a complication in her life that she needed to get rid of.

His avoidance ploy didn't work then, and she took the opportunity to break his heart further. To essentially tell him that he'd meant nothing to her. That she sends out a "vibe" that causes men to get too attached to her too quickly, and he was apparently just another in a long line of fools.

Pieter Cross is a man who gives friendship easily, but love... is much more complicated for him. It's not something he's even attempted in the two years since.

Now... he's volunteered for monitor duty again, but he didn't make the mistake of telling Alan Scott exactly WHY he's giving up his Thanksgiving cheer and camaraderie this year.

He's avoiding Dinah again. For reasons different, and yet the same. Once again, he doesn't know what to believe with her. Once again, what he feels and what he thinks are diametrically opposed. Once again, he needs to clear his head.

As he reaches up to feed the owl on his shoulder, his eyes flicker over the screens in front of him. He adjusts the bandaging on his chest, wincing slightly at the pain.

At least everyone's here. It's comforting.
