"The Canary's signal is still coming in. Currently two levels down, six yards east."

"Right," she says. "We have at least six white hats that have moved forward, and about that many bad guys unaccounted for."

She hits a couple buttons on her communicator.

"Tap into the backdoor we gave the JLA into the circle's computer system. You should be able to access whatever T-Spheres Terrific has left down here, and start getting visuals again."

It's a leftover. She doesn't want to get into why they had that access.

"We're going to hold the line for the others, but we have dozens, maybe a hundred non-meta guards konked out and too much firefight to evacuate them."

"Roger. I'll keep com lines open -- going to see if I can trade Lantern Mammoth for Enchantress."

And with a woosh and a sizzle, Firebrand cuts a streak of flame across the battle field to aid Alan Scott.

Scott and Enchantress are engaged in some pretty high-power magical back and forth, although Corinne had moved to intercept as well.

Gizmo was unaccounted for. Most of the Fearsome Five were down, although Mammoth was starting to recover from the hit he took from Marvel.

Captain Marvel and Captain Nazi were toe to toe, Nazi looking like he has been seriously upgraded since last they fought.

Psimon and Martian Manhunter were off to the right, deadlocked into a mental struggle. There were folks down on both sides.

And then there was D-Bomb, who was the last to make the scene. He looked oddly disappointed. "Hmmmm. You ain't my Power Peach, red, but you'll do."

Firebrand spins to avoid D-Bomb and lands in an attack-ready crouch, her hands alight and ready to burn.

"What, Light ran out of supervillains and started recruiting at the leather bars?"

"Cute." D-bomb said. "You've got a mouth like her, that's for damn sure."

And then he makes the steel door behind her explode.

Jesus! she thinks, as she dodges for cover and accelerates her heat field to burn off shrapnel. He might be a moron, but he's got some power.

She doesn't know him. But if he's gone toe to toe with Power Girl, he's no lightweight. Take him down fast.

"Well you know what they say, leather boy," she says, and suddenly he catches fire. "Some like it hot."

His skin catches fire, and he grins. "Yep. Especially us invulnerable ones. We'll, like the great philospher Stephen Stills said...if ya can't be with the one ya love..."

And he charges full bore right into Firebrand.

Fast, too Let's check maneuverability.

Firebrand flies up and over the charging D-Bomb, twisting in mid-air and blasting full-power him from behind as she maneuvers.

"Time enough for self-love in solitary, kiddo."

Da Bomb's no Batman, but he's no dumb, hulking brute either. He stops and flies straight up INTO Firebrand. "Been there, done that, red."

"I can tell. Your palms are hairy."

No choice. Full power. Last momentum work for her, knock him back to the ground.

a volcanic torrent erupts from her fingertips.

The force knocks him back into the ground, and his skin is blackened from the assault. But he's still conscious.

And the machinery just above her explodes.

"God Damn it!" she swears as the shrapnel hits her, and she begins spiralling down. The pain is intense, and suddenly, it's like she's burning a fever.

And that's when she realizes she's transforming again, her body actually becoming fire.

She doesn't have time to sort this out. She goes with it, choking back the panic. She eyes D-Bomb, and blasts him again, a concentrated burst this time.

Right for his crotch.

Bomb recovers and floats backwards, the blast just missing him. He sees the energy form she just took, however, and an idea forms in his pea-sized brain.

His explosions are based on chemical reactions. He reaches out mentally to Firebrand and tries to ignite an atom in her...

... and there are none. Whatever she is right now, it's not matter. She blasts at him again.
