The shifting of reality is a strange thing to get used to, at least in Cheshire's opinion. From being in the company of a goddess in a separate universe one moment, to sitting on a warm leather seat and feeling surrounded by arid air. The heavy box is still in her hands and remembering Dark Angel's warning, her first instinct is to shield it behind ( Read more... )

Pants. During an emergency, it's always good to have pants. Roy returns to the bus with a feeling that something ain't right. He forgets it as soon as he enters the bus.

"Oh my dear Goddess Hera, no."

Whatever happens here. It's not going to end well. She senses that Cheshire is going to try to leave Lian alive. But Roy? There's a cold dark feeling in her stomach. Feral jealousy, the need to look away, but not being able to.

At least she knew Roy. If she could keep her focused on Roy, she wouldn't pry for the others. Wouldn't endange them. She hoped he'd at least found the scroll. Fates only knew what Dark Angel could do with access to Hawkman's soul.

It wasn't helping much. The price of Lian's and the rest of her family's safety was letting Cheshire stay focused on her presence here and Roy's in the real world. This was going to hurt like a thousand hells.

Her thoughts are more like a prayer. I love you, Roy...I trust you. This isn't me and I know you love me. Hold on. Protect Lian for us, Sunshine...

Roy's entry into the bus rouses her from her mental conversation and Cheshire smiles at Donna's response. Although the nature of her response can be taken at face value and lead him to asusme that she is just happy to see him.

It seems your gods have abandoned you, otherwise we wouldn't be in this delightful situation, now would we?

Perusing Donna's mind once more, she learns of where he had been before the early transfer had taken place. The box behind her keeps her from rising and for the moment, Cheshire considers that to be something positive. She intends to get as much enjoyment from this farce as possible and having him come to her in mindless love is only the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

"Did everything go well, darling?"

Having to pretend that killing him isn't on the top of her list of things to do may be somewhat trying, but duplicity is almost second nature to her. She wouldn't have been able to fool Black Canary or Lady Shiva otherwise.

Donna's thoughts nearly give her good reason to laugh again. How incredibly ( ... )

There's a hit of revulsion...then...almost a smile.

"Everyone in the world gets a friendly Roy. The equivalent of half the East Coast has had his body. Heck, we both have made love to this man," The fact she has no recall of this doesn't escape Cheshire's notice, but it's the truth nonetheless. "Very few get his friendship, or his trust."

A pause. "You actually love him, or loved him at some point, didn't you?"

Cheshire snorts lightly at the estimation of the number of women who had experienced Roy's considerable...charm. The latter part of Donna's mention, that which they both share in common however, drains away most of her amusement. She supposes she should be viciously happy that the Titan's memory of such encounters was removed, but it seems more like another piece of a puzzle that is missing.

Troia's question causes her to hesitate, something Cheshire isn't proud of, as she reaches for an answer. Yes, I was foolish enough to fall in love with him. She doesn't elaborate on her response with memories, sharing it is already too much of a mistake, but the bitterness that she still clings to is quite clear.

And then he left me one evening without any reason. He left me and it wasn't months later that I learned the full truth about him. I loved him and the relationship was a farce, part of his assignment for the government. I want him to suffer! I've wanted him dead for so long, but after all of these years and several tries, I still haven ( ... )

"I can see where that would piss you off." She says neutrally. Her own doubts about Roy's intentions are something she tries to hold back and doesn't entirely succeed at.

"I know he was working for the government. Something regarding drugs. Why don't you tell me about the man I'd like to marry?"

She's pretty sure she doesn't want to see - that this will hurt like nothing else. She need to keep the focus on her and Roy, however. Cheshire knows her and Roy. Plus, it's obviously rattling her.

Something's not right here. Roy can't quite figure out what. But he's married. And has a family. That's what he wanted, right? He smiles. "Oh yeah. I was in the steambath. Wonder Woman needed a favor."

Oddly enough, Cheshire was entertained by the thought of Wonder Woman choosing to ask something of him at that time. Though a small part of her was thankful that she had not encountered her. She wasn't certain of how Dark Angel's magic would stand against her.

"Has something happened?"

She can't help being curious. Nevertheless, Cheshire curses the box behind her as well. If she stood, Roy would undoubtedly see it, but she couldn't remain seated forever...perhaps she could shove it under the seat inconspicuously.

Donna can also feel her anxiety over the item...

"She just needed some help. Nothing all that important," Roy says. He plops on the couch next to her and kisses her. "So what sort of wacky adventures do we have planned for today?"

"Daddy!" Lian rushes to him. Oblivious to the troubles going on. "How'd it go?"

She isn't sure of what "it," was right now. Just that her dad had been out. she doesn't say anything. She'll be told to stop drinking so much soda again.

Cheshire is startled when Lian rushes to Roy. A response is on the tip of her tongue, but seeing her daughter mere feet away from her and for once...unafraid of her causes her to freeze. How long had she wanted this? Her daughter by her side and not hating her for what she had done...

"Lian, your father has just returned. Give him a moment to collect himself."

It is unnecessary, but she simply wants to hear herself say it. Yet when Cheshire notices the glint of metal on Lian's wrists, the Amazonian bracelets a mirror to those Donna did wear, her mood sours.

Who has given you the right to corrupt my daughter?

Cheshire hears the voice of young Diana in response.

We all have the bracelets, Domina. Long ago Themyscira was in another place near what is now known as Turkey. Our mother...

A mother who wouldn't know of her for a thousand lifetimes.

Ruled there with her sister Antiope. One day a man known as Heracles came with his men to the city. He lied to steal something Mother had and he and his men placed the Amazons in chains to take what they came for ( ... )

It is an intriguing tale, though Cheshire wouldn't admit it. Although her own personal desire would have been vengeance against the men who had dared to enslave the Amazons and a special death for Heracules. Letting go of anger was not something that came easily to her, as the obvious situation did relate.

Even now the jealousy is still there and the fact that Lian is learning to defend herself from someone else and due to her is actually hurtful. She shouldn't care, shouldn't allow any of this to affect her and yet it does...

I suppose they serve their purpose.

"You're really starting to remind me of the Bana Midgal crowd," she says, still focusing on her surroundings and on reading Cheshire turmulous emotions.

Lian smiles up at her. "Glad to see you too, Mommy. Did you and Daddy have a good time at the lodge thing?"

Although her words are a lie, for once Cheshire's smile is genuine. This is at least a part of what she had desired, her daughter happy and at ease with her.

"Being with your father, it would be impossible not to."
