The Chili Party continues

Sep 16, 2005 15:27

Hal leads Arisia onto the dancefloor, taking a brief look around the crowded bar.

The room is full of heroes. Friends. Allies.

So many people. Superman showed. Wonder Woman showed. Jay and Joan are here. Booker and Plaz have crashed it.

Oh, yeah, he thinks as he pulls Arisia in close for a dance, it's good to be alive.

CRASH.

Abruptly, a man in a trenchcoat smashed through the window with a graceful leap and a flip, landing on his feet. Standing there in silence for a moment, a faceless man lifted his head and glanced around silently.

"..."

What's this? Free food? How delightful.

"..."

And music! And dancing!

"...Hrm."

And that was all he had to say about his entrance, before walking further inside as if nothing had happened. Broken glass? Pish posh, not HIS fault. Don't be silly.

Shayera blinks, stares, and then claps a hand over her mouth as she shakes with silent laughter.

Recovering quickly, she greets him with a wave. "Thanks. I needed that."

Hrm? Ah.

He noted her with a nod and a brief wave of a gloved hand. "Hello, Shayera." Without much of a thought, he brushed off from glass from his jacket and battered fedora.

Wierdness. This was as wild as that Grateful Dead concert her parents took her to as a kid.

It seemed as though the Question had a sixth sense of sort, as he turned to stare his faceless features to Fauna intently, in silence.

"Hello. I've heard of crashing a party, but try not to do it so literal next time, huh?"

She checks him for cuts, brushing some of the glass out of his trenchcoat.

"You another of Ms. Lance's friends?"

That's... strange. The Question jerked his head back when she checked him over. He wasn't used to many people -- beyond maybe Ted or Lady Shiva -- fussing over him to any length.

"Know Ollie. Not sure if we're friends," he responded. "Don't like doors."

"You. One of the Titans?"

"No, but I'm getting that question a lot lately. I've I'm just...dating one of them. I also work at Ms. Lance's shop."

She smiles. "I'm Aurora. You said your name was Question?"

"Saw you at the games, so I wondered." He shrugged.

"It's what I'm called. Hello, Aurora."

"Oh."

The Olympics are a very mixed memory. There's sorrow, fear, freak-out, rage...but it was also where she met Gar and Kori. She also isn't sure what to make of the "I was THERE and I helped out" pride she normally associates with a successful protest rally.

"I met some good people there. Some VERY good people. I also saw the worst that can happen in this 'life,' as the folks here seem to call it."

I think I'm ready for it...

The thought gives her a feeling like the Olympics all over again.

"There were good people. There were selfish people. There were unnecessary occurances."

The faceless man shrugged. "But for you, good came out of it. For some... well, it's not necessary for me to describe to you."

She remembers seeing Gar alone after both the Olympics and the plague. He was the quick-witted and merry clown in front of his friends and teammates, or the stoic, all-business "hero on patrol" through the plague-stricken city.

In front of her, he showed the pain underneath it. She wasn't going to forget his collapse after the plague anytime soon.

"Probably not."

"Some things are necessary. Pain, joy, anger, fear, and such. Just to comprehend how meaningful or meaningless our lives are. The question you should ask yourself sometimes would be 'is what I'm doing meaningful?'"

He held onto the tip of his fedora, lowering it faintly. "Well. Suppose that wouldn't matter. You have gained. Some of us have lost."

The Question decided he wanted a muffin, and went to do so.

Kilowog's attention is drawn... and immediately, he starts guffawing in that deep Vik voice of his. Funniest thing he's seen in a while.

"Who the hell is this poozer?"

Turning, his no-face stared blankly at Kilowog, to which he replied with,

"Good question."

The big Vik puts his teasing glower on, which is still pretty intimidating in general.

"Could use a good answer, poozer."
