Wherein We See "Break a Leg" is Not a Good Phrase

Fracture is better than a real break, but still, it'll be a while before Jesse uses the term to Wally, whose fibula has a crack in it where no crack should exist. She checked herself. As a matter of fact, she ran the diagnostics and tended to it herself because at Titans Tower, still fairly empty with the team out helping others or suffering from ( Read more... )

Wally hadn't slept in days... and he hadn't had much sleep at all for weeks prior. So it's no surprise that there's a slight drool issue going on, as his head's turned, facing her, and his arm's found its way to be draped over her shoulder... and his hand wiggles a little, feeling the ends of her long hair, stroking it lightly, unconsciously... before there's a sudden half-snore-snerk thing that jerks him up into a pseudo-sleep state, and he just blurts it out. "Linda?"

In a quick moment, though, his consciousness starts to return, and he tries to roll over, knocking his leg against the edge of the bed... and the pain comes with it. "OW. shhhtt.. aaahh....sshhhht....aaahhhh damn..." he starts to stammer, in a tight voice, trying to steel himself against it. Okay. Awake now.

Jesse's head lifts. She's exhausted too, like everyone, but her leg's not busted. "Just lie back, West. I'll get something for the pain."

Maybe she didn't hear.

Maybe he doesn't even know what he said.

Wally turns gingerly, finally looking down at his leg and trying to get his bearings. The hell... who the... what's... busted leg. Titan tower. Jesse.

"Plague. God, the plague, I need to get up..."

"No, you don't. Antidote's gone out all over. You just need to rest." She wakes up better than he does, apparently. Back to him, she plucks out a few pills and gets a cup of water. "Hungry?"

Wally blinks a little bit.

"Really? They finally did it?" He leans back on the bed. "I'm starving."

A blink.

"How long have I been asleep?"

"I don't know. Let me check." Jesse hands Wally the pills and water, then rubs her eyes and shakes her head firmly as if to dispel the fatigue. "I need some coffe. Hrm. 22 hours. I'll see if I can find something for you to eat."

He knocks the pills and the water back immediately, and uses the last bit of Speed Force he can muster to grab her wrist.

"Come here."

Jesse looks over at Wally blearily and inquisitively.

He's a bit bleary himself, and those bloodshot eyes look up to her, still exhausted.

"Thank you, Jesse. You're too good to me."

"What're friends for?" she asks blandly as she turns away again, pulling her hand from him. "I can at least make eggs. I'll be back in a few."

He just sighs as she leaves, sinking back into his bed, swallowing a bit. Still kinda out of it. Looking down at his leg brace. When he gets enough protein in him to burn, he'll be able to fix it... but right now... just... ow.

Titans med bay. Last time he was here, the situation was reversed.

He never made eggs for her.

But she was avoiding him... and he had to sneak in.

Still. Owes her eggs.
