Final Confrontation

Kathy knows what is coming. She knows Bane peeked under the mask while she was unconcious -- why else would he ask for all three of them now? Her father, Penguin, and Thorne -- she remains bound and held by Bane as she watches the three crime lords step into the room. And she knows that it's only moments until she's unmasked in front of her ( Read more... )

The Penguin was in the middle of berateing his brain dead busniess buddies why shooting Batgirl before finding everything out was a bad plan, when his umbrella goes flying. The Penguin quacks, literarly, pulling for a second before the weapon soars towards The Shadows and barely keeping himself standing for the trouble.

"Batman!" Penguin uttered in an alchemy of suprise, relief, expectation, and avian rage-he's had years to practice this. He fails a little more, adjusting his hat. Just enough drama that a quick flick of one's cufflink would, hopefuly, be missed. "Kwaa, the whole warehouse, Batman! So sloppy, fatalities would have been assured. She may be wearing your symbol, but she's one of us! Ours to deal with as we choose."

Which is when the overload command in the umbrella completes itself, the sensitive engine explodes viciously, sending metallic shrapnel and the raw heat of the laser's core all around it. Penguin smiled, adjusting his tie. "Good thing you, kwaa, prefer to make an entrance from such a safe distance, eh?" A pistol flicks out of Penguin's other sleeve, and Kathleen finds herself at gunpoint again. "Not as classy, but one must endure, kwaa. Carlton, I suguest you call your men in-even the luckiest duck would not have killed Batman with a quick self-destruct bomb, and the man has notoriously bad manners when it involves letting one finish a conversation."

Penguin should learn to speak less. The explosion comes nowhere close to the Bat, and by the time the gun is settled near Kathy, he is somewhere else. He knows about the bomb. And much as he loathes the gathered villains, he wants them in jail, not in pieces. "The yacht is carrying a bomb, Penguin," comes the icy warning frighteningly close to Cobblepot. "She can stop it."

His brow creases into a frown.

"Get that damn gun off my daughter, and maybe I will, Penguin!"

He steps up, drawing himself to his full height, even though Bane dwarfs him-- he still cuts an impressive figure.

Bane's off-hand sharply backhands Kathy, enough to keep her down long enough for the crime lords to deal with. Tie her up and make her talk, kill her, kill her and her father - makes no difference to him. He's done what he was paid to do - capture the Batwoman for them to halt her assault on their business. If they botch it from there, not his problem.

And a far more entertaining prospect has entered the scenario. There's a damned good reason for Bane's history of success in dealing with the Bat, defeated more by the Bat's friends, or extenuating circumstances. Specifically, he's not afraid of him. He was never much afraid of a legend, but in the beginning, it was hard to deny the man knew his intimidation. But he's just a man under the cape and cowl. All remaining supersticious dread disappeared with a snap of a spine years ago.

"Batman, you should not have come. There's no one to help you here," he comments to the shadows in his heavy accent. "Come out and let's end this."

Batman drops into full view, staring at the hulking brute that wants to face him. His cape is draped over his shoulders, hiding his arms and legs as he walks toward Bane, toward Penguin.

Toward danger.

Bane nods to the Batman - there's respect there. The kind the matador has for the bull, though he intends much the same result. "Amigo, you should have left this alone. After what she has done, she is getting what is coming to her. You should return to the shadows now," he says, flexing his muscles and waiting.

He advances slowly, respecting little about Bane other than the sheer danger the man represents. A glance goes toward Kathy to ascertain her status, then he fixes his stare on the hired brute.

Cobblepot rolls his eyes-turning a savage glare at Carlton and Thorn. "Make yourselves useful. Restrain her, and find out where the bomb is. Those are your people on there, Thorn, Durlesque, I suguest you use some of that compitence hidden well within the layers of fat stored safely within your, kwaa, heads."

The Penguin turns on the two titans, weighing his options. "Before you two begin-any more explosives, kwaa?" This may be odd, condisering Penguin's former homocidal mania, and relitive lack of concern for human life. Maybe he owns the property. He does mutter to a tuxedoed minion, however.

"Starling, are you-?"

"Yes, Mister Penguin."

"Excelent." Penguin winks at said minion, and claps his hands. "Well, enjoy the bravado, gentlemen, I aim to ensure I do not lose my investment."
