Pack Attack

Officer Daryl Shultz was on monitor duty at the Dahlgren Naval Base, and he was bored. He knew his job was important, that new railgun was at the peak of modern military hardware, the last thing anyone needed was for the thing to end up in the wrong hands. Still, the place was highly defended, it would take a highly concentrated attack to penetrate the defenses, or a particularly powerful metahuman.

Daryl grumbled a bit in disgust. There was a time people like him used to be considered heroes, now you had to wear tights, have fancy gadgets or superpowers to be considered a hero these days. In fact that was part of the reason this railgun was created. Thanks to weapons like that, the military wouldn't be shown up by these tight-wearing freaks anymore.

"Hey Daryl, you awake up there?"

It was a friend of his, Officer Martin Costello, one of the security guards, calling on his walkie-talkie.

"Yeah Marty, what is it?"

"You picking up anything on the monitors?"

Daryl takes a quick glance. "Nope, why?"

"You'll probably think I'm crazy, but I think I heard some kind of animal growling."

"What? You mean like a raccoon or something?"

"No, bigger."

"C'mon Marty, nothing bigger than a raccoon could sneak in.." Daryl heard an abrupt hacking sound and then the signal went dead. "What the hell?" He turns to the monitors to see the cameras going out one by one. "All hands, this is.." he went to alert the base, but the intercom was off.

"Daryl," The door swung open to reveal another of the station's security, Henry Unger. "Something's going on, there's something in the base. Animals, big animals. Look kinda like wolves, except bigger, and yel..aaaaaah!"

Daryl was temporarily shocked as a giant golden creature leaped from the hallway, latching its jaws around Unger's throat. Daryl screamed as he pulled out his gun, and fired a few rounds into the thing. The bullets connected, but didn't seem to do any damage as the creature turned from Henry's body to Daryl himself

"Easy father, we need someone to show us to our prize."

Daryl turns to see a woman enter the room. She was wearing a yellow and black outfit, it kinda reminded him of the costume Green Lantern wore. At first he thought she was a human until he saw the dark black eyes and the.."Jesus," he gasped upon seeing that the woman's lips weren't there, like they had been torn off.

She smiled at him, sharp fangs exposed. "We desire the railgun, you will take us to it."

"I can't do that." He meant it to sound more determined than he felt, but she picked up on his fear.

Two more of the creatures were now present, all three looking at him hungrily. The alien woman's smile grew as she could practically feel his fear emanating off him.

"You will take us to it. If not, then I will leave you to the tender mercies of my 'fathers three' and I can assure you, it will take hours for them to permit you to die."

He gulped, sweat dripping from his forehead. It wasn't death that scared him, but the sheer amount of torment he'd experience if the creatures ate him alive, bit by bit. He nodded in acquiescence.

Some time later Karu-Sil reemerged, all surveillance equipment had been destroyed and all personnel killed. As Deathstroke desired, no witnesses, no records, and she had been "quiet". It would take some time for the authorities to realize something was wrong. As far as any kind of autopsies would reveal, the officers all died from animal attack. Intelligent design would be determined, but Karu-Sil believed the blame would probably be directed at someone capable of controlling animals. She left no clue that a member of the Sinestro Corps was responsible.

"Come fathers, our work is done." Karu-Sil had the railgun wrapped in a cocoon of golden energy, taking it with her as they flew into the air. She briefly contemplated the human who she forced to aid her and smiled. She could be merciful when it suited her. By her guess, the man didn't even see her fathers' strikes. He was likely dead before hitting the ground. The four shapes took off into the sky, their package in tow.
