Fly me to the moon

Conrad Laughlin was a man on a mission.  More than anyone besides his specialists knew of.  The Justice League's Watchtower satellite required minute-by-minute updates and maintenance.  This is not something normally handled by its members, so tech support is always moving through.

The background check is well and truly exhausting.  One day's ( Read more... )

The auxiliary teleporter system activates as Blue Beetle responds to the information circulating on the comm-channels - namely, that the big attack on Chicago was a distraction to lead heroes away from the real assault.

The stealth systems on his robot surrogate cloak him in invisibility and he stalks the halls of the Watchtower, looking to take down as many villains as he can.

The Eel is still not bothered by the gas unleashed by Kip, due largely to his bizarre physiology. As he slinks and skulks his way through the Watchtower, hopefully towards a point where his teleportation relay will activate again now that he has all of the chemicals he was after, he starts to feel increasingly agitated.

There's something in the corridor with him, but he can't tell where. "Is that... you... Fadeaway-zzaaAArrggghh!!!" The Eel takes a massive electrical jolt through his body.

The security floors - if they're active, that's a good sign. Ted's robotic surrogate leaps over the Eel and carries on down the corridor, making his way towards the monitor womb. The gravity's fluctuated as well - but the robot's frame can take 10 times Earth's normal gravity, at least.

Girder is affected by the gravity, but not by the electricity running through the floor. Lurching along and making a lot of noise, he comes out of another corridor totally oblivious to the stealth-enabled Blue Beetle, and begins to hammer on the doors to the monitor area.

"Hey! Hey, Clayface! What the hell are you doin' in there?! The place is goin' crazy out here!" He smashes a fist into the sealed doors.

She knows what the secondary defense for the Tower does and so when Diana materializes on the teleporter she is already holding her breath.

First order of business -- breathing mask. Flying to the closest stash, Diana pulls out a mask and quickly fits it to her face.

Over comms, she says, "Watchtower, report in - who is on site?"

"This is Beetle. I've got eyes on Girder - he's trying to smash his way into the Monitor Womb. Might be a little heavy for my robot to handle on its lonesome."

That doesn't mean he can't try, though - leaping into action, he lets the stealth systems go idle as he uses the weapons arm to deliver a blast of super-cooled gas at the villain's face.

Another person materializes almost behind Diana. Carter had gotten the transmission from Kip as he was heading for Chicago and decided to redirect here. He had hoped he still had access to the comms. He grabbed a mask and nodded toward Diana.

A few keystrokes on a nearby computer, and Diana confirms that Hawkman has been given access to comms.

"We will head in your direction, Beetle. I do not know how clear the hallways are, so we may be delayed."

A salute to Carter, and she's off down one of the halls, headed towards the monitor womb.

"Well now!" Dr. Polaris, floating down the corridor on his search for the fabled trophy room, finds himself bumping into Wonder Woman and Hawkman, and he's arrogant enough to think he stands half a chance.

"I control magnetic fields you know. I wonder how much metal is in your weapons and armour!" Polaris flips his hand, hoping to make the two heroes rocket into the ceiling.

As Polaris flips the magnetic field on its head, a speedster blurs down the corridor, shrieking with glee. After Dr. Light released him, Savitar knew his first course of action would have to be to find the teleporters, but this station is practically a maze.

He's about to zoom past Wonder Woman when a deafening boom makes him trip and skid along the floor, coming to a temporary halt. Clock King's bomb has gone off.

Carter instinctively lets go of the mace, as it has more standard metal properties that would be affected by Polaris' magneticHa field.

The Nth metal that's actually on him, however, is another story...its alien properties not so easily manipulated.

Before Hawkman can counterreact to Polaris, he sees this other individual stumble at the sound of the explosion. Judging from the entrance, he was either a speedster or had other invisibility/transport powers, and that could be problematic.

He leaves his feet and propels himself right towards the ribcage area...if he makes full impact he should be able to make a few ribs snap.

It's been far too long.

Diana doesn't rocket towards anything, ceiling or otherwise, and fixes Polaris with a level stare.

"God-forged metal, Polaris. You have no power over me." A glance over to Hawkman to assure that he has the speedster covered, and then she's moving towards Polaris.

She fully intends to bounce him against the nearest bulkhead.

Emerson frowns behind his visor as he realises his powers are doing very little to Wonder Woman, and struggles to maintain his footing when the explosion goes off somewhere in the Watchtower.

Deciding to take some proactive action, he pulls at the metal in the walls and floor instead. "If I cannot batter you, I will crush you in a vice!" He backs away from Diana as he draws his magnetic field tight around her.

Savitar shrieks as a number of ribs break under Hawkman's boot, but his super-speed allows him to heal as quickly as he's injured. Generating a forcefield of speed energy around him by vibrating rapidly, he leaps to his feet, crackling with electricity.

"I'llrunringsaroundyoupatheticbarbarian!!" Savitar starts sprinting around Hawkman over and over, trying to cause a centrifugal force that disorientates the hero, and deprives him of oxygen.

He's trying this against a man that's served with the one who originated this trick for over half a century. So he knows what to look for. The fact that his eyes are as sharp as his namesake doesn't hurt either.

He waits until he just begins to feel the effects of Savitar's trick...then strikes, placing his fist at where Savitar WILL be rather than where he is, ready for the follow-up before he has time to heal.

Savitar may have accelerate speed, healing and brain function, but it's not much when compared to the strength of Hawkman when he's particularly irritable.

Repeatedly battered, the speedster crashing to the ground moaning. Then he blinks, and he starts vibrating at such a rate that a force field begins to expand around his body.
