Leaving Home

Dec 28, 2009 23:13

Cassandra had gone to see Steph, like she does most nights. This time, she'd even remembered to go to her home, instead of the cemetary first. She'd finally adjusted to her best friend being alive again.

And now that's been broken.

She'd known something was wrong immediately, just from Spoiler's body language. And once the blonde started talking, it had all come out.

To lose a parent is a difficult thing for the most well-adjusted, and Cassandra is a far cry from that. Having Bruce as a father was still a very new thing to her. And now she'd been cheated of it.

She knows she should leave a note. She should leave something, for Alfred's sake. Dick will be there for him and vice-versa, but what she's doing will still hurt. Ultimately, though, she decides against it. The emotions in her mind are not easy to sort as is, and with her ineptitude at language, she'll just make a mess of it. Best to just hope he understands.

Because when Alfred comes in the next morning to check on her, as he always does, he'll find a spotless room. Clean, well-taken care of. But empty. All save the cape and cowl, arranged on her bed.

She loves Alfred, and Dick, and Tim, and Stephanie, and Barbara, and even Helena. But right now, what Cassandra needs is a parent. Time to go find one.
