Miss You - See You Soon

A lot has changed in the last ninety-six hours. The normal two-man teams that scouted out all the sectors of space had been replaced by squads of Lanterns running 'round-the-clock patrols of the sectors immediately around Oa, effectively forming a cordon around the battered homeworld of the Guardians. Rest has been extremely limited, a luxury that simply cannot be afforded. As if patrols weren't enough, Mogo has been directing the rings of the deceased throughout the universe to seek out new bearers, and someone has to train these new recruits.

Not only had Sinestro's lightning raid claimed the lives of many Green Lanterns, the Great Betrayer had also added a significant weapon to his arsenal - the living fear entity Parallax. Mongul had rendered the place a shambles, slaughtering the Lanterns who had guarded the Sciencells, keeping close watch on some of the most feared criminals in the universe. Those few members of Sinestro's Corps who had been left behind when their brethren fled now found themselves occupying those very same cells.

Ninety-six hours of patrols, drilling, training, rebuilding, strategizing, and not a blip from Sinestro or his followers. The Corps has flung a net around Oa so tightly woven that they would notice if asteroid miner's emissions were below regulation two sectors away, but so far, nothing. Despite this, the influx of new officers heading to Oa was a constant reminder that everyone needed to be on their toes - not that anyone needed it after the thrashing they had taken.

Somehow, Honor Lantern Kyle Rayner of Sector 2814 has managed to secure himself a few spare moments between patrolling and drilling new recruits. Sleep has been hard to come by, and a nap in a restoration chamber would do him wonders - either that or the cantina's own special brand of Thanagarian stimcaf. But something far more important than a need for rest drives Kyle toward a vacant communications terminal where he keys in the Watchtower's ultra-long-range relay information.

"Priority message from Oa to Justice League Watchtower, please respond," he says, leaning back in his chair, allowing his mask to disappear, revealing the bruises Arkillo gave him, not to mention the dark circles under his eyes. He looks like hell, but considering the condition of many of his fellow officers, he got off light. Maybe he would get lucky and she would actually be on monitor duty.
