Across the sky until the end of time

The conference room stands seemingly empty, chairs pushed up to the large round table set in the center of the room with only an envelope resting near the edge.

A single figure stands at the back of the room, leaning against the wall and calmly surveying the landscape laid outside of the window.

She was expecting a visitor soon.

When you have a request, you acknowledge.

When you have an appointment, you RSVP.

When the League calls, you arrive.

Black Lightning makes his choice, entering "slideways" into the conference center and steps onto the walkway. "Madam Ambassador. Its been too long..."

With a wide smile, he moves forward into the light, carefully noting the empty chairs.

"Mr. Vice President, it is good to see you again." She strides toward him with a smile to match as she shakes his hand firmly.

"Thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to come by, sir."

"As of..." Pierce checks his watch, then mentally scrolls back to Eastern Standard Time. "Four hours ago? Its Jeff Pierce. I apologize about not getting here earlier, but Pete and the staff had some exit work to do. Here, we all got some of these as a parting gift." He opens his briefcase and hands her a "1-20-2009" t-shirt.

"Don't worry, the President had one on himself all this week."

"Thank you, I shall wear it with pride." She folds the tshirt and places it on the table, pausing to pick up the envelope as well.

"I am fairly certain that you know what I invited you here for, Jeff."

"I do. When you receive an invite like I did, you respond to it. I would...love to accept this.

And far be it from me to question your judgment on this, but...I made mistakes. I'm far from perfect in things. With the recent issues, and the problems with the Brainiac issue, are you sure about me?"

"What makes you believe that the rest of us are any closer to perfect than you are?"

One hand settles on the back of the chair next to her, inscribed with her own insignia.

"While I cannot speak for anyone else with a seat at this table, for myself I know that I am nowhere near perfect. There have been decisions made, actions taken, which have created problems and difficulties for others. And yet, I am allowed to remain a part of this illustrious league."

That explanation makes more sense than any denial he prepared.

"So who else is in?" Better to know now, than find out against Starro.

"Does this mean that you are accepting the invitation, then?"

[mrpierce2u]

"I could use the rest, to be honest." He gives a wide smile. "I'm a little bit out of practice, but...I'm sure I'll get my chance, soon."

"Then welcome to the Justice League, Jeff." She is smiling in return.

"As for those who have accepted, it is yourself, Fire, Ice, and Kyle Raynor. We are still waiting to receive responses from Black Canary, Green Arrow, Zatanna, and Metamorpho."
