"Bentley you're a fool", Julie said as she wiped the blood off of his forehead.
5 minutes ago Julie had walked into Bentley's Crime Alley apartment. The apartment was above Gotham's former Playhouse. Bentley was once a famous Hollywood director and the Playhouse was once a cultural highlight of Gotham. Both have now seen better days.
Julie had walked into the apartment to find it all messed up and Bentley half dead on the floor. As she cleaned him up, he explained that Crime Alley's various protection rackets had been bleeding my dry for years. Now that he was out of money, they had resorted to making him just bleed.
"I've had it Julie, I've had it with this neighborhood! This playhouse! It's all over, I am leaving" Bentley said.
"No! This place has so much history! It's where I did my first stage performence! This is important to Gotham! We can't let it die!" Julie said.
"Julie, look around you. We can't let it die because it's dead! I don't have it in me to run this place anymore! It's cost me all my money, my marriage, my health and almost my life!" Bentley went on.
I can't believe it. After all that's been lost, I can't let this part of my past go too.
"Then I'll buy the theatre and run it" Julie said hardly believing the words were coming from her mouth.
Bentley couldn't believe it either.
"Jules, this place was almost the death of me, don't let it kill you too! Besides, where are you gonna get that kind of money? The make this place what it was, you'll need a fortune."
He is right. I can't ask Kathy for anymore. She has put me up and spent a fortune on me in clothes and helped me rebuild my life. But this. This is an investment. And an unwise one too. I'll need to a charity company or a foundation or....
"I suppose I know somebody who might want to help us". Julie said as she realized her obvious answer.
