Ralph catches the news first in French. Makes sense, since he's in diplomat's quarters in Paris, helping monitor the international side of reactions. He quickly puts out a few calls, the first to influential friends and making sure there's no overreactions, and then over JLA channels ( Read more... )

No time for even the synthesized voice--she's multitasking beyond the need for coffee at this point. The Elongated Man gets the latest update sent to JLA members.

"I may be able to locate Zatanna's mind," J'onn replies. "Please give me a moment."

There's a pause. "I can't locate her. She may be at Shadowcrest, where she's shielded."

Ralph looks through the info, starting with the situation in Cuba as they know it. He's probably closing in on as busy as Oracle, having taken up the international relations part of the job, and in some ways, is happy to have reports to read and folders to go through instead of more time on the phone.

After a bit, he goes through the information on Zatanna. After all, international crisis is important, but so are his friends.

He pauses as he gets the call from J'Onn. "That's what I was worried about. Hopefully someone can look in on her soon. This whole thing... and Arthur, has to be rough on her. Thanks J'Onn."

"Not yet. The shield is still up, and nothing's been launched yet."

"Understood."

There's a long pause. Then, abruptly, "LIGHT?!"

Clark hrms to himself over the com. "One thing that's funny...he might be distorting his face or something, but from what I can see, he doesn't think he's lieing."

"Why would Doctor Light pretend to be Kobra?"

"I don't pretend to understand that man's mind, Superman," Hal replies, a harsh tone in his voice.

"I'm guessing he thinks he is. After his supposed death, who knows who might have picked up the remains? I think we're dealing with a mastermind behind the scenes somewhere."

"Thank you, Ralph." Another voice quietly connects to the network. Superman would normally throw a smile behind this, but what he just saw on the television...Doctor Light-Kobra planning on holding trial executions in his sham of a government...well, there's not much to smile about. "A lot of us can keep an eye on Cuba and be ready to move in the second that shield goes down, but you're probably the best man for the job of making sure Zatanna gets through this without hurting herself...or doing something she'll live to regret."

"If there's any news, or anything we can do, don't hesitate to call, Ralph." Superman's voice is unwavering in this as it would be in telling a supervillain to stand down, "Reservist or no, Zee's still family."

Peace said, the Man of Steel returns to his vigil in the sky, watching the world few flashes of his telescopic vision and hating the fleeting feeling of helplessness he always had when contemplating unrepentant scum the likes of Arthur Light.

"Therein lies the problem... I'm in Paris... since I'm also the one who speaks a lot of European languages and has the contacts on speed dial. I can't get stateside anytime soon while we have a crisis here. Was hoping someone could check in on her.... I'm holding down the fort here though. All good, so far, but with the new information, I'm expecting the phones to go nuts any time now."
