The Rise and Fall of The Great Powers

The perspective changes from this side of the White House. Jefferson Pierce knew it would happen, of course, but he still wasn't prepared for how total it was ... how encompassing. Once upon a time ... seems like a million years ago, now ... he turned down JLA membership because he believed they overlooked too much, they were too far above the real world.

Now, he stares at a computerized map of the Western Hemisphere, surrounded by military and intelligence experts, and tries to wrap his head around the fact that KOBRA has just conquered an entire nation in seconds flat. And even that's not clear cut. There's a lot at stake here, and a lot of it's political.

He tells his aide that the Justice League will be arriving shortly. That they're to be brought to him directly. The aide turns white. Even here, the JLA coming is a big deal. Hell, the JLA coming here usually means something bad has happened.

He looks up at the map, listens as President Ross and various generals weighing options.

Something bad has happened.
