Caleb already moved all the tables to the side of the room, and slowly poured the powder into a circle. Then comes the other type of powder, tracing a line from the center to the outside. All of it common, simple ingredients of what is, emotional investment aside, a common, simple spell ( Read more... )

Ibn waits and watches closely. Something about this feel right. Helping someone in need. Fighting evil. It might be the shower and shave, but he feels better than he has in quite a long time. There's almost a grin on his face.

Little is known about this Entity, but Ibn is already thinking of possible means of countering the threat should Caleb fail.

Gods she hopes this isn't a mistake. Ibn and everything else.

"So, what do you guys need?"

Ibn never moves his eyes off the circle and Caleb.

"A fire extinguisher and a stocked medical bag." He grips the hilt of his sword, ready to move. "And sand. Lots of sand in case we have to distrupt the circle."

He pauses a moment. Sometimes, it's difficult to remember manners and kindness. "We're doing this for the right reason with purity in our hearts. There's no greater magic in the world."

A private smile. “The extinguisher is a comforting thought,” he notes as he sets up the candles around the sword.

After Caleb utters some very carefully enunciated Latin, the sword begins to emanate a soft, white light. His eyes find Sand, and he nods a 'proceed' in his direction.

As he stands to one side, willing this to work and bring Corrine back, Trevor mentally tenses the platform the sand is still sitting on. In the event that this doesn't work, his plan is much more elemental than extinguishing the fire. If things go bad he intends to drive the miniature sand dune across the entire circle and bury it all, sword included, against the far wall. He doubts a pile of sand will do much harm to a geomancer, but he'll be sure and apologize to Caleb if he should get caught in the shot.

Sand walks over to the sword and pours the sand along the length of the blade.

And says a silent prayer of his own.

It’s been a while since he’s had a seizure, but Caleb wasn’t exactly surprised when Tara diagnosed his collapse as such.

He can’t wait until he can pull the bloody IV out of his arm, though. While understanding it’s necessity, that spot on his arm always itches afterwards.

"What, uh ... what did I miss?" he asks, half-wondering if he really wants the answer.

"Try not to move too much. Your body suffered through some sort of ordeal. Take it slowly..."

Those were usually the words he had to say whenever treating heroes. It felt oddly comforting to repeat them.

Sand smiles. "The good news is that I think we have some leads into how we can best help...and find Corrine. The bad news is that I think Phillip D'aubigne is also tied into this somehow, and he won't be making it easy."

From the other room...

"Ibn, I hear Caleb up. Did he pull out the IV again yet?"

She's coming down the hallway, and Ibn will smell something familiar. Tara has apparently learned how to make Borsch and cabbage rolls.

Ibn doesn't move his eyes from Caleb. There's just a touch of humor in his voice. "He's behaving quite nicely. I haven't had to strap him down. . .yet. Of course, the effects were minor. I believe he will heal quickly."

"Demon blood does that I found out. Caleb likes to rely on this fact, just so you know." Tara's tone is light and teasing. Caleb being Caleb is the most normal thing that's happened in weeks and she's actually thankful.
