All over bar the paperwork

With Johnny Sorrow taken care of, Angel, Sand, and the others head back to Wolfram & Hart. The infirmary has been alerted, so the state-of-the-art facility is ready and waiting for their return. The 12-year-old would-be sacrificial victim is quickly transported to be thoroughly checked out.

Waiting for them in the infirmary is a very anxious

Sand sat in Angel's office, typing furiously. Angel was gracious enough to give him access to Wolfram and Hart's files.

QUERY: Dodds, Wesley

....

808 FILE NOT FOUND.

QUERY: BELMONT, DIAN

....

808 FILE NOT FOUND.

QUERY: D'AUBIGNE, THERESE

...

DECEASED. DOD 8/12/89. SEE FILE "D'AUBIGNE PACT".

Sand began reading through the file...and apparently the D'aubigne's have been historical clients of Wolfram and Hart.

Then he gets to the 'ritual sacrifice' part, and his blood begins to boil.

"Sand?" Fred is standing in the doorway. "Y'all right?"

Angel enters from the elevator to the penthouse, adjusting the buttons on his shirt.

"Have we found anything out about how to get you home?"

Sand looks up, trying to process both questions at once. "Well, I'm reading here about how the doppelganger for the woman I love on THIS world was given up for ritual sacrifice as a young child in exchange for legal counsel for your firm, and I guess I'm having a really hard time with the idea that you and yours are going to make this place a force for good."

Sand turns to Angel. "Wes can get me to my DIMENSION relatively easily enough, the problem is getting me to within a couple weeks of my time - time travel is nearly UNHEARD of in this universe, I guess. He said he's probably going to need a couple weeks to get the necessary research and call in the necessary favors."

"It's an uphill battle. We've managed to prevent a few sacrifices, and we no longer accept them in lieu of payment."

"As for time travel - yeah. I was once sent a few days through time by the Powers That Be, and then there was a time-traveling incorporeal demon screwing with us a while back.. not common."

Sand nods grimly. "You folks are good people...and believe me, I never thought I'd say that about a vampire, but here we are...so please take this for what it's meant to be.

In every situation where I've seen someone trying to covert a great evil into a positive force, more often than not the covert-er becomes the convert-ee. And with this much power and information and...stuff at your fingertips, it's sometimes easy to forget who you are and where you came from."

He turns to Fred. "Could you excuse Angel and I for a moment? I promise, I'll come down and take a look at the modifications you're working on for my mask when I'm done.

Fred deflates a little. "Oh. Okay. But you promise?" Her face lights up. "I think you'll really like what I've come up with."

"Cross my heart. I owe you lunch too. Count on it." Sand smiles. If Corrine wasn't in the picture...

...he'd still have to go home, but be very sad about it.

Angel folds his arms over his chest, and leans against the wall as he gives Fred a chance to make her exit, then begins.

"Something on your mind?"

Sand nods. "I figured that you wouldn't want to discuss Connor with Fred in the room." He smiles. "Sorry, I had a flashback about an hour ago."

That casts a shadow over his face.

"I'm not sure I want to discuss him at all. He's got a chance at a normal life now."

Sand frowns. "I hope so. Because you risked a lot for it. But that I can understand - for the ones you love, no risk is too great. All I'm saying is be careful. When you make a deal with the devil, there's usually a screw for him to turn that you might not have realized at the time."

He smiles. "No offense, but I've gotten enough flashbacks being around your stuff the last 24 hours to write a movie. Be glad I didn't ask you about the blonde."

"Believe me, I know the risks. It was the only chance he had. If I go down in flames because of it - well, I figure I'm damned already."

He frowns at the second part. "Yeah, that wouldn't have been a pleasant conversation."

"Never is when it comes to women." Sand smiles, and walks towards Angel, hand extended. "Thanks for the hotel until Wes finds my gateway home - we're both better off with me not underfoot around here. That having been said - you need an extra hand, buzz the hotel, send up the Vamp signal, whatever you need to do. I'll be around at Fred's request, but at least I don't have to hole up here."

"A hotel is the least we could do - you gave us the knowledge we needed to put Sorrow down."

"Gotta admit, it was good to see him go down like a punk for once. On my word, he held off some of the most powerful heroes of our era. Of course, all of ours are alive - it's good to know that Sorrow has an achilles heel in the undead - could be something exploitable if he shows back up to our realm."
