Intraspace -- The "Suicide Notes" finale!

Feb 14, 2007 11:18

Ray Palmer's been freed, but the Justice League and their allies are now faced with both a dying and homicidal Enchantress, and a Chronos from somewhere further in the future that seems Hell bent on trapping everyone where they are in order to prevent some future event -- training his first sneak attack on the Cosmic Treadmill that helped bring ( Read more... )

The sneak attack is successful, and Wally is knocked clear off the Treadmill.

Which is unspeakably NOT GOOD, as he was their means of getting back to where they belong...

And it gets worse ...

The Phantom Stranger and Faust Jr. distracted for a moment, The Enchantress turns her attention toward The Flash. Her eyes flash yellow as she sees him, and it's clear now that the magic coursing through her is destroying her ... consuming her whole.

She gestures, and a cube of force surrounds the speedster, keeping him at bay.

Joto attempts to retaliate against the Enchantresss, but is blindsided by Chronos' attack. The ray strikes him, leaving him frozen in a sort of Chronal Suspended Animation.

Cubes.

More importantly... Jean.

Dammit, he's not gonna be made useless here - he makes an attempt to phase himself through the cube, even if it IS magic...

The Enchantress, however, seems to have made a mistake ... The Flash isn't trapped in there alone.

"Flash," says Ryan's voice, from seemingly nowhere.

Ryan rockets from near microscopic to six-inches.

"They've forgotten the physics of this place," says Ryan, a little distracted as he examines the cube. "They're still thinking 3-D space."

He makes a deep gulp, and then glances at Wally.

"Can you vibrate to an exact sonic pitch if I give you a synthesized equivalent to 'tune' too?"

Wait, beyond 3-D? 4-D?

Wait... the fourth D is TIME, isn't it? That would make sense with all the Chronos and stuff...

"Fire it up, Atomic Man, and I'll rev her up. Doesn't look like I've got any other options. If you explain why I'm doing this, are my eyes gonna glaze over?"

"Nah, you should be cool," says Ryan, as he hits a button on his wrist control, emitting a very high piercing sound. "Take my hand, and vibrate to this exact pitch. When you and it are synchronized, we're going to 'shrink.'" He kind of makes air quotes with his fingers on 'shrink'.

"But size doesn't work the same here. So when we hit that pitch, instead of 'shrinking,' we should be shunted about six feet through what passes for 'space' here."

He shrugs.

"That's the Reader's Digest version."

"Um, right."

That makes no sense. But he's not the scientist.

Barry probably would've gotten it.

He starts with the vibration, and it takes a little while to coordinate it. Meeting something exact is tricky... but eventually, he's got a bead on it.

"Dynathrusters are go!"

Ryan's mind is racing.

There is no 'space' here. It's an aleph ... a point which encompasses all possible dimesnions within itself. Each point in this reality is, in reality, completely adjacent to every other point. Which is how we found Ray so quickly. We're not even 'here' in the physical sense. We don't look like this ... sound like this. It's simply a matter of perspective ... our minds putting information into a form we can cope with it ... same as what happens when I shrink smaller than air molecules."

He watches Flash's progress on his wrist monitor ... one .. two ..

We found Ray by tracking his chronoton signal and then simultaneously existing in each point in this dimension at once. That's all we need to do ... track back to the Chronoton signal is ... to where Ray is ...

Flash's vibrational rate is increasing ... three ... four ...

Substitute exact mass displacement for the short-term energy release of the treadmill ... time this exactly ...Flash hits the point ... Ryan signals the size change ... but instead of their ( ... )

Flash isn't one to waste time. With a quick burst of speed, he races to try and bash Chronos in the back of the neck and knock him cold, before anything else goes wrong...

Chronos buckles under the weight of the Flash's blow, inadvertantly firing his pistol as he falls.

The ray wings The Enchantress in the shoulder, and she erupts with mystic energy, now flooding through her eyes, through the cuts all over her body.

She screams ... to all appearances, it's the mystic equivalent of going nuclear.

Singed but resolute, the Stranger calls out to Faust.

"Now, Sabastian! We must intervene to prevent the energies of the Enchantress from overwhelming us all!"

It's almost as if he was expecting this - his gloved hands are outstretched and he begins to glow with mystical energy. Ancient warding spells to contain the power.

It's not enough ... not by himself. It's apparent from Faust's face that he knows that.

"She dies here, it's over. We're goners, but we stop her from hurting anyone else."

"And what of June Moone and Jean Loring? The assemblage of heroes here that have worlds yet to save?"

The Enchantress is flaring like a sun now -- the heat eminating from her is scorching, the light blinding.

Faust is staring at her, withdrawn ... one hand shielding hsi face. The look on his face says it all ... this could end now. Here. No mroe suffering and torment.

Then his jaw clenches, and he adds his magics to The Stranger's ... strengthening the warding spells to create the powers.

And absently ... under his breath ... he mutters ... "The Witch Queen. Who the Hell is The Witch Queen?"
