I am a grown woman, Babs reminds herself as she rolls back and forth in the kitchen. I survived growing up in Gotham. I survived being shot by the Joker. I refused to sit in a corner and do nothing when so much was taken away from me.

The soup needs more pepper. The bread is ready to come out of the oven.

Clark smiles. He sniffs the air. "Smells good."

Superman likes my cooking! Babs tries and fails to fight off a fangirlish smile. "Avgolemono soup with chicken," she says, "and homemade bread, plus a salad to start with." She rolls into the kitchen and fetches the salad bowl out of the refrigerator, setting it in the center of the table. "Dick, could you get the dressing?" She gestures at the chairs. "Please, have a seat."

"Avgowhatsits?" Lois whispers to Clark before looking around the kitchen. "Homey. Clark, I'll hold Jonathan. It's okay. You make your own bread?"

"Mostly for when we're having soup," Babs explains. "Bread baking's something I took up after I was shot." She mimes kneading dough. "It's a good upper-body workout."

"Avgolemono." She translates: "Egg-lemon soup. With chicken." She ladles the soup into large ceramic bowls. "I learned to make it when I was studying Greek."

"Egg-lemon soup?" Lois echoes, with another look at Clark as she takes the baby and bounces him. "You...bake your own bread. I didn't know anyone did that. I think I was under the impression it grows on bread trees. Probably somewhere in Kansas."

Dick deposits the wayward cat on the floor with a chuckle, and moves to assist his wife with the bowls.

I got no idea what most of the stuff Babs makes is. I just know I like it.

"Preferably in large helpings." As he carries the bowls to the table, she balances the bread board on her lap and wheels out behind him, checking on Mary in her high chair.

"Where, um...." She has the baby. She has no clue about how to help in a kitchen. So Lois just tries to stay out of the way. "Everything does smell great. Just be warned: farmboy here can eat a lot."

"I'm glad I made two loaves of bread, then." Babs waves Lois over to a chair. "Please, sit down. Do you need anything for your baby?"

"Would you have anything that Jonathan can sit in or lay in?" Clark says. "I'm sure Lois would appreciate the use of both hands for a few minutes."

"There's Mary's bassinet ... she's too big for it now, if that'll do? Or the car seat...."

"That'd be great, thanks." Lois hesitates a moment before adding, "I don't mind holding him, you know. I really don't. He's safer...well, you know, he's just easier to take care of that way."

Where'd the cat go?

Clark simply sighs.

The man can speak volumes in a sigh. "Or, um, you know, we can put him in a chair close to Clark and me..."
