The aliens have been successfully driven off.

Or so it would seem.

Katar's only been gone for half an hour when the door opens again, and he returns.

With two bags full of food that they wouldn't let him leave without.

Shayera's been waiting for word on the apparent crisis, although she's not really sure what use she'll be if it comes right down to it. As well as being as tired and sore and shaken up as everyone else, her hands are heavily bandaged. Essentially useless. And she needs a new mace.

She's sitting on the couch when he gets back. She looks up, a little startled to see him back so soon.

"What's going on up there?"

He looks grim.

"Thanagar. They've done what no one else could. They've beaten us."

A sigh.

"We've been named administrators of North America."

...

"Right," she says. "I'm going to bed, then. Wake me up when the assassins get here."

Momentarily forgetting about her hands, she moves to push herself up, winces, and settles back down.

"Actually, I'll sleep here," she says, with exagerrated dignity.

He puts the bags on the table in front of her.

"Or, perhaps, it was a ruse to get us all up there for the American gluttony holiday."

She rolls her eyes, but she's smiling.

"And here I was thinking I could get a new mace without having to go back to Thanagar after all."

At this point, she doesn't have the energy to be surprised or indignant. She's just relieved they don't have to fight off another threat.

"We'll talk to Carter about that before we go that far. Now would you like me to feed you, or would you like to try to eat with your toes?"

She actually has to consider this.

"You realize that if anyone finds out that I actually needed help to eat, I will hurt you."

"Come now," he says, smile growing wider as he gets the food out. "When have you known me to publicize facts about you that you might find embarassing?"

"Point taken," she says.

She watches him set up dinner, tired but content. Not at all sorry to be missing the gathering on the Moon for a quiet evening with her partner.

"You're too good to me, you know."

"Perhaps you're right," he grins, cutting up the turkey.

"Maybe I should tell them about that thing you do with your voice when I touch your navel."

"Careful," she says. "If you tell, I might have to stop doing it."

"You say that as if you can control it."

A fork full of turkey comes to her mouth.

He resists the temptation to act like he's feeding a squeaker.

That's probably wise. This is embarrassing enough for her already.

She's also hungry, though, and not in the mood to argue. She takes the bite.

It's kind of nice to have someone to take care of her right now. Not that she'd go so far as to actually admit it.

He gives her a small peck on the lips as she chews.

Then, he looks down at her hands again as he slices up another bite for her.

"I wish I could have been there with you."

There's been a lot of that sort of sentiment between them.

"Someone had to clean up after Klarion," she says. "And I... had to be there to face Light."

If only just to prove she could actually fight him and walk away. Or just to be there when he was taken down for good.

"You're here now," she points out. "And if cutting up my food for me doesn't earn you good boyfriend points, I don't know what does."

He looks at her with a puzzled glance. As if evaluating her.

There's more to the Light story than she's told him. He knows that much.

"You have officially been on Earth too long if you are calling me your 'boyfriend,'" he smirks.
