All villains are equal, but some are more equal than others

Alcatraz was cracked open and the prisoners spilled free eagerly, but not everyone was spirited off the Rock. Some prisoners had only themselves to blame for that: they were too distracted by the chance to take revenge against the guards or the prison itself to grasp the larger freedom that awaited them across the Bay. As for the rest of the ( Read more... )

The Titans rematerialize at the landing pad on top of Titans Tower, along with their jet.

It's time to go to work.

Five minutes to resupply, people! Then we're heading out!

While they're doing that, Nightwing heads to command central to deploy the experimental containment field that Cyborg's been working on. It won't catch the criminals already a certain distance out, and its effectiveness on magic users hasn't been tested; but it should at least help stem the tide.

Five minutes later, the Titans are reconvened on the rooftop, and he's had time to come up with some semblance of a plan.

Okay, folks. Fliers, take point. Hope you all have your rebreathers, because I'm going to dump pepper spray and nauseating gas into the fray down there first to help make our jobs a little easier. Don't worry too much about the swimmers and rafts unless they make it through the experimental containment field that's about a quarter mile off the island's coasts.

Kory, Nightstar, I need you to lay down some covering fire while we land. Everyone, watch each other's backs. This place is no picnic, but I don't need to tell you that. Pair up, and watch out. Find the powerhouses and take them down any way you have to. Call for help if you need it.

Good? Okay, let's move out!

Nightstar follows Starfire, looking at the water below as she flies. "Nightstar to Titans," she reports into her com. "We've got help down there--a Checkmate Knight on a jet ski."

"I asked for him," replies Starfire. "He--hold on." She is silent for a few minutes, then continues: "Oracle confirms. He's an ally."

Bart's not talking much - his throat still hurts, even after the speed-healing. He nods in response to Nightwing's instructions, and takes off, running across the water.

As Kid Flash approaches the shoreline of the mainland, he can see a dorsal fin moving back and forth in the water. A second later, the water before Kid Flash erupts, the spray falling away to reveal the massive form of King Shark.

Bart zigs around the hulking gray form, starting a quick circular sprint to generate a waterspout under the finny fiend.

"Idon'thavetimeforyou."

King Shark dives down, seeking to escape the waterspout created by the young speedster.

Though the undertow kicks up quickly, King Shark's able to weasel out of the forming spout - which Bart immediately abandons, running in a zig-zag course that loosely follows the villain's lateral movements.

King Shark twists and turns in the water, rising to the surface to charge again, his gaping mouth fringed with rows of razor-sharp teeth.

Powerful arms suddenly encircle him from behind - one of them grinding against that place where King Shark's carotid artery is.

He's taken down this putz before.

At first King Shark snarls and thrashes against the grip of the king of the seas, but before long, he is limp and unconscious.

Seeing that King Shark has been deep-sixed, Bart turns his attention to other escapees.
