Halloween night in San Francisco, about eleven o'clock. Any other year, parents would be attempting to convince their little ones not to eat all of their candy, lest they should get a stomach ache - and probably failing, resulting in sugar rushes that, thankfully, only come once, maybe twice a year. At this hour, the various clubs and nightspots of ( Read more... )

He doesn't hear her come in, his attention focused on the contents of the open manila folder resting in his palm, moving his fingers to turn to the next page of the mission recap. Four years of history to catch up on - monitor duty seems like as good a time to do that as any.

Grant's mind, however, is not exactly on the file, nor the monitors, at least, if that small smile tugging at the corners of his lips is any indication. No, it is not the exploits of his fellow Titans or the sleeping city that occupies his thoughts; instead, it is the image of a beautiful, dark-haired, green-eyed woman that he holds in his mind's eye.

Finally looking up from the file, Emerson spies those glowing green eyes and his smile widens in the dim light. "Mar'i?" he asks, closing the folder, turning his chair toward the woman.

"No, it's Starfire," replies the woman, moving closer. "But I did wish to speak to you of Mar'i." She takes a seat near him. "I am her nearest kinswoman. What are your intentions towards her?"

As she approaches, the Tamaranean's voluminous red hair becomes more visible just as she speaks. Although the smile does not leave his face - he is always happy to see Kory - the expression is not quite the same as a moment before.

"Kory," Grant replies, sitting up straighter, setting the folder on the desk. Intentions? "I...hadn't really thought much beyond a second date." And a third...and a fourth...maybe a fifth...He remembers the smile that the woman had given him during the party and, odds are, Starfire has seen Mar'i and Grant together since that night.
