"Been accused of it. Guess that's why the JLA only calls me when they're desperate, and doesn't offer me a membership card. Which would be cool, cause the moon? Styling."
At Ray's blank expression, he throws up his hands.
"It's a ritual killing. She dies in the ritual, but both she and the Enchantress will be severed from one another. Jean goes back to her crazy old self, and The Enchantress goes back inside June."
He settles into the chair next to June's bedside and gently brushes the hair out of her face.
"A murder is a murder is a murder," says Faust. "Last time I tried this stunt, I lost my soul. Only had it for a minute, but I lost it nonetheless. So what about you, Mr. Hero? You willing to put your eternal soul on the line to save her?"
"Keep it," says Faust, as the door they entered begins to glow. "Think it over."
Ray and Faust lock gazes for a moment, and then Ray turns and leaves the room ... taking the knife with him.
Faust motions for Sue to follow, but before she goes, he whispers "You know, there's a lot of prophecies and things going around about the Enchantress right now. Doc Occult told me that Madame Xanadu said that 'New chamions will rise in her wake, and one hero will fall.' Now who do you think she was talking about?"
"If anything in this world grants one, you have a handle on it," she notes without any trace of a joke in her voice. She hands him a card. "When your ready to call in a marker let me know." She eyes him a little. "Or you could come along and not get drunk for a few days. I'd get it either way."
Because she's starting to suspect that June and inaction are the reason he likes bars. Not like she hasn't seen that one before.
"We shouldn't have let this one fall through the cracks. That could be said for a lot of things connected to this case. 'Sorry,' doesn't even start to cover this." She nods to Ray. "I gotta get back to clean up crew. Take care of yourself, kid. Take care of her too."

"Of course, there's a catch. Isn't there always?"

She looks the kid over. "So how in love with her are you?"

"I don't know. I don't have a soul, so I'm not a good judge. All I know is that she matters."
