The shape of a perpetrator

The Titans have assembled in the conference room. Nightstar picks up a copy of the note she and Grant were given by Yuri Ivanovich Mediev. "Okay, so Oracle confirmed there's nothing funny about the note itself. That leaves us with the message."

Mankind will soon assume its proper place. I should think that you would assist me in this endeavor, ( Read more... )

Aurora keeps quiet, thinking. The eco-terrorists she knew weren't so flowery or formal with their language. If she thought it would help...Well, better to look stupid for a moment than stay silent when you shouldn't.

"I...know some..." she bites her lip. "Well, they're radical environmentalists. The kind who believe Gaia would be better off with fewer of us. Some even call for voluntary extinction - not having children or withholding medical treatment. This stuff isn't the style of the folks I know, but maybe someone 'subcontracted' there?"

"Or could subcontract in the future," Mar'i says thoughtfully. "Could you check your contacts, see what you can hear?"

"There's a cell in San Francisco. They will NOT talk to a cape, so it's definitely going to have to be Aurora that approaches 'em."

"Not all by yourself, I hope," frowns Nightstar. "Some kind of backup--either visible or not. If you're worried about being wired, maybe Beast Boy could ride along somehow?"

"Well, most of you didn't notice me at the cape convention." He says, a serious look with an amused spark in his eyes. "I could give my friends a call and hit the makeup chair again, blend in and help 'Rora with this."

Up until now, Damage has been more than happy for Nightstar to do most of the talking; true, he had made up half of the task force charged with gaining information from Mediev, but planning, brainstorming, and developing strategy aren't exactly what he's best at.

Glancing at Gar, the corners of Damage's mouth turn down slightly. "How secretive is this group tough?" he asks, his eyes shifting in Aurora's direction. "I don't know much about these radical environmentalists, but if they're like any other extremist group, they probably aren't too hip to the idea of letting strangers into their operations.

The metahuman's eyes lower to the surface of the table, a pensive look crossing his features; he still isn't convinced that he and Nightstar had completely convinced Yuri, so some of his own self-doubt may be mingling with his concern for Gar.

Thinking his idea over, he can poke holes in the idea with ease. His expression looks more serious as he considers a more secure course of action.

"Or, using a mosquito or moth form, I could hide on her clothing, under her hair, silent enough to pass undetected." He looks to Aurora and back. "Easier to get one in than two."

"Maybe..." Grant replies, looking pensive, bringing up a hand to his face, cupping his chin. Damage and Nightstar probably would have been able to handle things on their own if the sit-down with Yuri took a turn for the worse. In spite of this, they'd still had back-up - Flamebird and Speedy had both been in radio contact on a nearby roof. Four Titans to deal with a ex-mobster.

"A group like that, they'd look for a wire, but..." Damage sits up a little straighter, looking over at Nightstar again. "What about something like a one-way radio transmitter? A miniature wireless microphone...Cyborg could come up with something like that, right? Conceal it in a pendant, a pair of earrings?"

She feels a little queasy. She's worked with Gaia's Avengers before on poilitical actions.

"One cell doesn't know who are in others. That way, if the cops get involved, they can't 'sell out' the others. I only know the coordinator here because we both got arrested sneaking onto a boat. He...was going to plant a bomb."

"It's worth checking into, absolutely - but I have to say, as an outside observer - the tone of this message sounds personal."
