Today we stopped at the KodaChrome Basin State Park. The KodaChrome Basin State Park has two large Jurassic sandstone deposits. They are, the Navajo Sandstone and the Entrada Sandstone. The Navajo punched through the younger Entrada Sandstone. The process that allowed the punching through to occur was seismic activity. When the seismic activity occurred it liquefied the Navajo below and the pressure of the rock below caused the liquefied rock to punch up and form large towers. The first picture shows the actual tower. The second picture shows the contact between the Navajo and the Entrada.
