Just because I know how to do something ...

Doesn't mean I should actually do it, no matter how useful it might be.

Professor Somebody wanted some hardware support getting FooNixDuJour onto his laptop with all the hardware doodads enabled.

Problem, can't do that without taking his current laptop for a few weeks.

Solution: Professor ABC just upgraded laptops and the old one is of the exact same model as Prof Somebody's current laptop.

Problem: Prof ABC's old laptop has lots of missing parts.

Solution: My old dead laptop is part compatible for the necessary missing parts. I have other broken laptops I can use for other parts.

Problem: I know how to do all this (sometimes I think it's why they keep me around) - laptop hardware maintenance is annoying, but tractable.

It's 12:30AM, I'm hungry again, and I now have two laptops half dismantled, 8 screwdrivers, three boxes of little tiny impossible-to-find-on-the-ground black screws, and two hardware maintenance manuals. Time to close them both up - they'll boot in the morning.
