Right, I said I would answer these questions. #1

I received about 6 questions along the lines of "Do you [still] hate me?" and "Why do you hate me?" All anonymous, so I can't really answer specifically. (Yes, I could look at their IP address and make some guesses, but in a world with web anonymizers, it's not really worth the trouble to me.) If it were just one, I might have just ignored it, but not 6.

"Hate" is such a strong word for me when used towards people, though sometimes I use it a bit too liberally when talking about people. There's a reason why some crimes are described as "Hate Crimes." (For some reason, it doesn't seem like such a big thing when I say "I hate it when the wall in the bathroom sheds paint onto my toothbrush.")

"Hate" implies to me not just a strong dislike but some specific desire to see or have something bad happen to someone. There have only ever been two or maybe three people in my life to whom I could apply that - the "If I ever saw so-and-so again, I'd probably punch him on sight" sort of thing.

So, to answer the questions - probably not. However, it is entirely possible I don't like someone, have a low opinion of someone, think someone does some really lame things, or is just not worth my time or energy. There are certainly people from my life about whom I can say "So-and-so can go to hell." So, "hate"? Probably not. Dislike, disdain, disapproval? Possibly.
