So today started off alright. Got up, took a shower, all that jazz. When I walked into the kitchen I found a map with the keys for Barb’s car, she wanted me to go apply at some places down the road somewhere. I had planned on taking the bus to the shopping center to put in some applications today ANYWAY, so I figured I might as well just do it all in one trip on the car. I found that there is a sun-roof in the car so I kicked that back, put on some Slipknot, and headed out to get a job!
I put in an application at one place as some sort of clerk, two other places were automotive places probably only looking for mechanics so I didn’t bother, and the last had a sign that said they were looking for experienced welders. I wielded a barrel grill, and got a good scored on my bead weld in Ag class, does that count? Didn’t think so. So I headed to the shopping center, where I saw and Amish guy get out of a black van and walk into home depot… apparently they do hire drivers a lot, and while its not common, you will see them in wal-mart and such.
I walked into the game-stop and watched this kid’s dreams get dropped like a 18 century antique Aztec vase from a 20th story window, when he tried to turn in his old X-box and get only 20$ instore credit for it. The kid turned in his DS lite, along with 15+ games for the both of them combined to get 180$ instore credit for the lot. Hope it was the kids birthday because that’s not going to get you anywhere close to that PS3 kid! Anyway, I was willing to sit around and watch all this go down just to hear the clerk tell me they weren’t hiring.
So I walked over to Radioshack, there was an older guy working with this hot little thing. It looked like this guy was training this girl that I bet her only idea of what a “transistor” is, was from Korn’s butchery of their once glorious sound witched rock the adolescent you of the 90s, in the song “twisted transistor.” The older guy who was probably a manager said they were hiring “ALL THE TIME,” being that he hired this chick must have been a last ditch effort. So he told me to apply online, so I got the store number, and went on my mary way.
I was itching from a cheese steak, I’ve been in PA for almost a week, and no cheese steak, what in the hell is wrong with me?! So I went this local deli called PJ’s, and acquired one, and came home to eat it. It was pretty good I should have got more then just onions and mushrooms on it, but I didn’t know what I would like, much less their options. Soon after Barb and Dave came home from counting their church’s winnings from poor folks who believe that their donating to “charitable causes” by giving money to the church. We had a small brunch, soon after which I did some reading and promptly fell asleep. Afternoon naps are fucking great.
I was awoke from my nap by the phone ringing, being that’s not my house I didn’t want to answer the phone, so I let it ring. I picked up my book where I left off. About an hour later we got another call just as I was walking outside to have a smoke. Dave got the phone and said it was for me. It was an invitation to a job interview! Fucking sweet! The pay was about 10.25$ an hour with lots of benefits. I would be working with Rent-A-Center doing all order filling, moving furniture all sorts of things. So I have an interview tomorrow at 11:00 am.
Then within the next hour there was another call, I picked it up this time and it was a guy from Aerotek, a company that manufactures helicopters. They started off at $11 dollars and hour, I didn’t hear anything on benefits but I bet their fucking nice. So I have an interview with them Wednesday at 9AM. Holy fuck! Things are really starting to look up.
So hearing the good news we had steaks tonight with string beans and some left over potato salad, all delicious. So I’ll let you folks know how the interview goes tomorrow, Hola!
