Today I accompanied
my sister on a trip to
Halle, more precisely, we went to turn in the portfolio she compiled to apply for the studies of painting at
Burg Giebichenstein,
University of Art and Design.
Halle is not really far from Berlin (1.5h drive), but Germans feel entirely different about distances than people I know from other nations ;-), so people from Berlin don't get there often, it's just too far away, and not big enough to be worth a stop during vacation. After handing in her stuff, we had lots of time to kill, so we wandered around for about 2 hours.
View on the castle tower of Burg Giebichenstein. Records on that castle date back to the year 900something which is quite impressive if you ask me. Today it looks rather cosy inside, containing workshops and studios for all kinds of arts.
Lots of birds kept my attention :)
So, while I was bird-stalking Wiebke sat down to read.
The castle is sitting directly at the river
Saale. Not a big river, but due to the snow melting in the nearby mountains, it's water line has been rising beyond its usual height, as you can see. The Saale is tributary of the
Elbe which
people expect to cause serious flooding again this year.
This bridge kind of led nowhere as the path was cut off by flood water, as you can see below.
I know I already stressed your bandwidth with all these pictures, but I really had a hard time picking the ones I like most to put up here. Few more pics are waiting for you in my
online gallery, in case you're not tired yet ;)
