Exclusive: Larry Klayman praises House candidate who went toe-to-toe with Islamists
I have been a lawyer and public-interest advocate in Washington, D.C., for 35 years and can tell you that there is not one congressman or senator currently serving in Congress who has the patriotic guts of Joe Kaufman. Joe is running for the U.S. House seat of the ultra-leftist and sleazy Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz in South Florida’s 23rd Congressional District.
When I first met Joe, in 2003 while I was running for the U.S. Senate in Florida, he volunteered to help my campaign. After it ended, Joe worked for me as an expert on lawsuits such as the one that challenged the building of a radical Islamic mosque in the Ft. Lauderdale area. From personal experience, I can attest to Joe’s courage.
Let me tell you why we need more Joe Kaufmans in Congress during these dire times when Muslims are successfully waging revolution worldwide, with the acquiescence if not assistance of President Barack Hussein Obama and his corrupt enablers, like hack politician Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Indeed, it has recently come to light that the Muslim Brotherhood, the granddaddy of Islamic terrorist groups, has infiltrated our own government. Regrettably, it is not surprising that even the top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the Obama State Department has ties to this evil group.
Joe made his career as an investigative journalist focusing on terrorism. He is also the chairman of Americans Against Hate.
Years ago, Joe learned that that the Muslim Family Day at the Six Flags Over Texas amusement park in Arlington was sponsored by the ICNA, the Islamic Circle of North America, a group with ties to such terrorist groups as Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood of Pakistan.
No Christians or Jews were allowed to attend the Muslim Family Day.
In response, Joe helped arrange for a small protest of 10-15 people. The protesters had wanted to carry signs that exposed the terrorist ties of the Muslim organizers of the event. To stop Joe, the Muslim groups sought and improperly obtained, ex parte, a restraining order within minutes of Joe’s arriving at the park.
Upon returning to his office in South Florida, Joe wrote an article about the ICNA event for FrontPage Magazine, an online publication. He stated in the article, “Two organizations co-sponsoring the event had ties to radical Islamic groups abroad, including al-Qaida.”
On Oct. 12, 2007, the Islamic Society of Arlington, Texas, and several other Islamic organizations sued Joe for libel, defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress in Texas state court. In addition to seeking libel damages, the plaintiffs asked the court to prevent Joe from threatening, harming, or inciting violence against them.
Among the groups suing Joe were the Muslim American Society, which the U.S. government has called a front for the extremist Muslim Brotherhood, and three Islamic centers owned by the North American Islamic Trust (NAIT), an organization that was named a co-conspirator in the 2007/2008 Holy Land Foundation (HLF) Hamas financing trial.
The Muslim groups claimed in the lawsuit that Joe had libeled them, yet not one of the groups was actually named in the FrontPage article. The article focused on the ICNA and its connection to the financing of terrorism overseas.
In the course of the litigation, these Muslim groups admitted under oath that neither Joe nor his group had ever threatened them in any way, shape or form. Indeed, it was Joe who received a threat before his arrival in Texas for the demonstration that day. If Joe had lost this case, radical Muslims would have been given a green light and thus empowered to stop anyone from investigating and writing about any Muslim groups and individuals.
After two years of legal battle (Oct. 12, 2007 to June 25, 2009), and at great personal and monetary cost (more than $150,000), the case against Joe by these radical Muslims was thrown out by the State of Texas Court of Appeals, 2nd District, Fort Worth.
This case was a landmark decision, as it confirmed that Internet journalists are real journalists and deserve the rights afforded to all members of the media. This is important since the left controls the mainstream media and conservatives, people of faith and libertarians must generally rely on the Internet to get the truth out to the American people. Even more important, Joe’s courage in taking on Muslims bent on harming the United States underscores why we need more Joe Kaufmans in Congress. In today’s world, from my experience there is not one congressman or senator currently serving in Congress who will even risk his or her next meal from a lobbyist, let alone put his own life on the line to defend our beloved nation.
I personally applaud Joe Kaufman not just because he is a friend and former colleague with high ethics and character, but because I am disgusted by the gutless politicians from both parties who now run our government! With Iran on the brink of obtaining nuclear weapons and intercontinental missiles to deliver them to our shores, and the Muslim Brotherhood taking control of nearly the entire oil-rich Middle East, Democrats and Republicans have stood by and watched our national security and Israel’s be put in jeopardy. Joe Kaufman, not a typical Republican, would indeed be a different type of congressman, a congressman with the courage to represent the American people, rather than just himself and his political party! I urge you to visit his website at www.Kaufmanforcongress.com and help him in any way you can.
