Manhunter revealed to the Secret Society that his source of information on Darkseid's plans was an "inside man" -- Galaxy Communications CEO Morgan Edge. Darkseid had intended to replace Edge with a clone under his control, but the real Edge had managed to turn the tables on his double and make Darkseid think he was the clone. Thus he had access to all of the dark lord's plans. But his ruse had finally been discovered, and Edge's last message to Manhunter was that he was going into hiding. Manhunter believed he would be safer there at the Sinister Citadel, and charged the Society with finding him before Darkseid's minions did.
The team went to Edge's office in the Galaxy Communications building to look for clues to his whereabouts. But when they arrived, the place was already being ransacked by a group of strange super-beings, apparently sent by Darkseid:

With the weird invaders defeated, the Society checked out Edge's office. They saw that he had pulled out files relating to a previous battle between Superman and Lex Luthor, where Luthor's hidden lair had been revealed -- an underground complex built beneath a small museum in Metropolis. Guessing that Edge was hiding out there, they headed for the lair.
Their guess was correct, but the Society had been followed by more of Darkseid's new minions, who quickly went on the attack:

Morgan Edge agreed to accompany the Society back to the Sinister Citadel. He also revealed that these new super-minions were being created by a mystical artifact called the "H-Dial", which had come into the possession of Darkseid's right-hand man, DeSaad. He knew that DeSaad was headquartered inside the abandoned "HappyLand" amusement park, and suggested they go stop him, lest they be up to their eyeballs in off-beat super-beings.
Arriving at HappyLand, the Society found that DeSaad had kidnapped young Robby Reed, the previous owner of the H-Dial, and locked him into some kind of high-tech torture rack. Robby was being forced to endlessly dial the H-Dial, and instead of transforming into a superhero himself as usual, DeSaad's machines were diverting the superhuman forms and turning them into separate beings that the Apokoliptan villain could control:

DeSaad fled once his minions were defeated, and the Society freed Robby and dismantled the machinery. Back at the Citadel, Morgan Edge had one more warning: Now that he'd plugged the "leak" in his organization, Darkseid would most likely set his final assault in motion within days...
