DC Villains
Episode 33:
"London Calling"
Roll Call:
Bucky
Captain Republican
Chemical Lad
Mr. Roboto
Having turned against Darkseid, Manhunter and the Secret Society left behind their "Sinister Citadel" in San Francisco and set up housekeeping in the abandoned Justice League cavern in Happy Harbor, Rhode Island. Manhunter had intel indicating that Darkseid was going to build another Fire Pit somewhere in England. He didn't know exactly where, but he had a contact in London that he believed would be able to pinpoint the site.
Catching a plane to England, the Society found themselves at the home of notorious occultist John Constantine.
He seemed unimpressed: "Fake heroes led by a clone. That'll work out well." But he agreed to locate the Fire Pit site in exchange for a favor. "Some wanker named Felix Faust is out to nick some artifacts from the British Museum. 'Unleash Hell on Earth', the usual rot. He's a pain in my arse, but you lot should be able to handle him." The Society agreed to his terms.
Arriving at the Museum, they found the front doors blown open, and a motley crew of mystics invading the place. One of them, Doctor Seven, had just finished summoning his mystical ally, the Morloo.
Felix Faust
[Devitalization Ray, Force Field, Mental Blast]
Abra Kadabra
[Paralysis Ray (lapel flower), Reflection (suit), Teleportation (wand, Usable on Others), Transmutation (wand, turn into wooden puppet, penalties to hit and defense)]
Gentleman Ghost
[Death Touch (flintlock pistol, range), Invisibility, Non-Corporealness, Teleportation]
Doctor Seven
[Arsenal (potions), Mind Control, Power Blast]
Morloo
[Electrical Bolt, Flight, Size Change (15'), Transmutation (tombstone - immobilized)]
The team jumped on Doctor Seven first in the hope that defeating him might cause the Morloo to vanish as well. Despite his plethora of magic potions, including healing, Seven dropped before long. Unfortunately, the conditions of the summoning spell were such that the Morloo would remain on Earth for another ten hours, and it continued to fight, tossing lightning bolts at the Society members.
The de facto leader Felix Faust was the next target. His magical shields protected him for a time, while he sniped at them with his psychic attacks and energy-draining spells. But eventually they pounded through his defenses and took him out.
Abra Kadabra managed to briefly turn Bucky into a wooden marionette, reducing his combat abilities, but he shrugged off the effect through force of will, and Abra fell not long after, followed by the Morloo.
The Gentleman Ghost was a trickier target, hiding behind his invisibility and intangibility while firing shots of pure death energy from his flintlock pistol. But the Society eventually got the timing of his phasing in and out, and finished him off.
[Loot Drops: Green Bell of Uthool (deactivate an enemy's defensive ability), Red Jar of Calythos (Healing), Silver Wheen of Nyorlath (re-do a failed dice roll)]
Back at Constantine's home, he made a big show of consulting ancient tomes, scrying in a crystal ball, and reading tea leaves before shrugging and declaring, "It's Stonehenge, all right? It's always bloody Stonehenge!"
And sure enough, as soon as the Society arrived at Salisbury Plain, they saw a familiar face: Cult leader Glorious Godfrey, convincing a crowd of bystanders that Stonehenge was an eyesore and a monument to Satanism, and should be destroyed. Meanwhile, his associates in the so-called Demolition Team were beginning the process of excavating the Fire Pit.
Glorious Godfrey
[Emotion Control, Invulnerability (cloak - Kinetic and Energy]
Hardhat
[Armor (suit), Speed (suit)]
Jackhammer
[Heightened Attack, Heightened Expertise, Invulnerability (suit), Vibratory Blast (jackhammer - Area Effect, Adjustable)]
Rosie
[Special Ranged Weapon (Rivet Gun - Blunt Kinetic with Flame Blast Contact Attack), Armor (suit)]
Scoopshovel
[Heightened Defense, Natural Weaponry (shovel), Tunneling (shovel)]
Steamroller
[Heightened Expertise, Special Ranged Weapon (rifle- Sharp Kinetic with Autofire), Vehicle (steamroller)]
The well-named Hardhat repeatedly slammed head-first into Mr. Roboto, inflicting heavy damage while taking relatively little himself. However, one hit was so solid [near-maximum damage] that he actually staggered himself a bit, and the team took advantage of his hesitation and brought him down.
Meanwhile, Steamroller used his namesake vehicle to pin Captain Republican to the ground, doing his best to flatten him. Cap managed to slip free, and unloaded on the driver, finally knocking him out despite the protection afforded by his ride.
Jackhammer concentrated on Chemical Lad, pummeling him with the shockwaves from his weapon. He was well-padded against physical attacks, but Chemical Lad's acid spray was another story.
Rosie continuously fired red-hot rivets at Cap, hoping to wear down his considerable defenses, but once he turned his attention to her, she was not long for this world.
Glorious Godfrey used his divine gift of gab to try and turn the Society against each other with limited success. He was well-protected against common attacks, but again Chemical Lad's unusual abilities proved to be the spoiler.
Scoopshovel carved out large chunks of Mr. Roboto, finally knocking him unconscious. But his victory was short-lived as the rest of the team turned on him and pounded him into submission.
Darkseid's plans had been thwarted once again. But the Society knew that tougher battles lay ahead...
[Loot Drops: Glorious Godfrey's Cloak (Invulnerability), Rosie's Rivet Gun (Special Ranged Weapon - Blunt Kinetic with Flame Blast Contact Attack)]
